9 Maxi Dresses You Need This Summer
Let’s talk about Maxi Dresses!
Since summer is here, you will most likely be busier than ever. Whether it’s going out to brunch with some girlfriends, having a backyard barbeque with friends and family or having a date night with your significant other, I can guarantee that not only do you want to wear something stylish, but something that is comfortable, easy to put on and helps you stay cool from the heat. Am I right? That’s why Maxi Dresses are the best item of clothing to wear during the hot summer months. If you’re not sure what Maxi Dresses are, I will tell you. It’s a long dress which reaches down to your ankles or to the floor. It’s not fancy, doesn’t require a lot of putting together and it’s loose at the bottom. Most Maxi Dresses are made out of light cotton or polyester which is why they’re perfect to wear when it’s incredibly humid out.
What I love about Maxi Dresses is that no matter what your tastes in clothing are–whether you dress super casual on a daily basis or dress to the nines no matter what the occasion is, there is a dress for everyone. They come in every pattern, color and necklines (for me, I dislike a v-neckline), so finding the perfect maxi dress shouldn’t be a difficult task. In fact, it should be one of the easiest decisions you will ever make.
The history of the Maxi Dress
I’ve always found it fascinating to learn how some of the most popular pieces of clothing in the world… came to be. For the Maxi Dress, it became popular in the 1960’s. Oscar de la Renta (fashion designer) wanted to create an item of clothing that was not only fashionable, but long and elegant… simple, too. Then came the maxi dress and the rest is history. Now millions of people all over the world wear Maxi Dresses. I truly find it amazing how one thought, one idea, can change the world and still be popular in the modern day society that we all live in now. What about you?
What to wear with the maxi dress
As previously mentioned, you don’t have to be a girly girl to wear Maxi Dresses. Even if you’re that one girl out of all of your friends who doesn’t like to dress up, you too, can rock this fashion trend. How do I know that? Because I’m that girl. No, dresses are not my thing, but I believe that I could wear one and make it simple and casual enough to where it’s more chic and stylish than someone who likes to dress up on daily basis. Fashion is supposed to be fun, even if you’re not totally all about it.
What I love about these dresses is that you can accessorize it however you want. Here are some examples:
Pair it with a jean jacket
I am a lover of all jackets and if you love a casual look like me, then pairing your maxi dress with a jean jacket is the way to go. Wearing this over your maxi dress in the summer might not be the smartest idea, but if you’re going to have breakfast by the beach where you know it might be a little windy, then wearing a jean jacket over your maxi dress will do the trick perfectly.
Wear sneakers
Sneakers are a girl’s best friend. Is that the incorrect saying? If so, then sneakers are MY best friend. I think every woman needs a pair (or 2, possibly 4) of canvas sneakers in their closet. They go with almost everything and make an outfit fun and flirty. Plus, sneakers won’t hurt your feet either. If you’re a busy girl like me, you want to be able to go non-stop without your feet slipping out of sandals or without the pain from heels. Pair your maxi dress with sneakers and you will be ready to rock the day.
Layer away
Laying your maxi dress can be another fun way to make your outfit even more stylish. If the dress you love has a neckline that is just way too low or has many cutouts, consider layering your next step–that way you don’t have to NOT wear the dress. Wear a light shirt underneath, a long light jacket (not in the summer though) or even a long sleeve shirt in the fall. There are more than enough ways that you can layer your maxi dress in a way that makes you feel comfortable when wearing it out in public for all eyes to see.
Wear it over jeans
Did you ever think that you could wear your maxi dress over a pair of jeans? If that answer is no, then I am right there with you. But you CAN and it looks more fashionable and stylish then I ever imagined. I mean, how cute are the looks below?! Although this article is about Maxi Dresses for the summer, don’t be afraid to continue wearing them into the fall when it gets chilly out. If you wear pants underneath your dress, then you’ll not only stay warm, but if you want to give yourself a tomboy vibe look, then wearing jeans underneath your dress will do just that!
