Are you interested in perfecting your beauty routine but don’t know where to start? Don’t worry, I got you. Check out these 8 Makeup Life Hacks You Need To Know About that have completely elevated my look!
They say diamonds are a girl’s best friend but I have to disagree and say it’s makeup. Ever since having to pile on makeup for dance competitions as a kid, I instantly became infatuated with the concept of makeup and how much you can do with it. Starting in late middle school I began experimenting more with makeup on a day to day basic, and fast forward to my recent 22nd birthday and I am more makeup obsessed than ever. Being a makeup junkie for so long has taught me a handful of super useful makeup life hacks that I have either learned from beauty gurus and social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok, or have just happened to discover on my own. The way you apply your makeup products is crucial to achieving your desired look. Here are some of my top favorite makeup life hacks that I can’t live without when doing my glam routine!
Yes, baking your under eyes with loose powders can work wonders but sometimes create an unwanted flashback in photos or caked on look. Instead, a great solution I discovered is to use translucent pressed powder in replace of loose powder. My favorite way to apply this is to use a fluffy eyeshadow brush. The smaller shape of the shadow brush versus a larger brush makes for precise placement of the power. This also will insure that you under eyes are smooth and poreless, leaving your makeup staying on all day.
If you haven’t tried cream contour by now, you’re truly missing out. I love to use a cream contour before applying a powder contour to accurately define my facial structure and act as a primer for the powder. Instead of using the cream contour after your foundation, try applying it to your skin after moisturizing and priming, then apply the liquid foundation after. Make sure you use a dark enough shade that the foundation won’t wash out. This will give you an effortlessly beautiful look, making your skin look amazing.
The Lip Flip trend has recently taken over social media during the past year a replacement of lip injections. Basically a lip flip is a quick procedure that involves injecting Botox to the Cupid’s Bow and gives the appearance of a lifted, larger upper lip. If you aren’t a fan of needles or anything permanent but still want to get the look, I suggest trying out the natural lip lift, lip liner hack from Kim Kardashian’s makeup artist, Mario Dedivanovic, also known as Makeup By Mario, who gives amazing makeup life hacks. This hack involves only over lining the Cupid’s Bow and just the center of your bottom lip. Do not over line any other parts of your lip and you’ll look like your just got a Lip Flip!
One of my favorite makeup trends is the soap brow look used to create fuller, natural looking brows. Growing up, I always had dark, full brows and would constantly over pluck or take frequent trips to get them waxed, so I really enjoy the soap brow trend that embraces natural, full brows. If you are new to the trend, I recommend that instead of using soap, try using a hair gel such as göt2b Glued Spiking Glue, which is my personal favorite I swear by. A tiny bit of product brushed through your brows with a spooly will leave them staying in place all day long!
Before setting your face makeup and moving on to powder, try using a cream eyeliner to target the smaller points of your face you want to highlight, such as under the brows, the tip of the nose, and inner corners of your eyes. My favorite product for this is the NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in the shade Milk. This pencil has the best consistency for adding a subtle, non shimmery highlight to your face that looks extremely nature. It also works great as a base for powder highlighter.
Cream Blush is a great product for enhancing the natural blush tones in your skin and one of my favorite products I recently started using underneath my powder blush. If you want to get this sun kissed look, you can obviously shop for cream blushes, or simply use a pink, peach, or nude lipstick you already have in your makeup collection! You can either use a regular lipstick or liquid lipstick, but I recommend sticking to only cream lipstick products. All you have to do is swipe some lipstick on the apples of your cheeks and nose or apply with a stiffer brush, then blend out with a damp beauty blender.
I first learned this concealer method from one of my favorite Youtubers, Sagonia Lazarof, who always gives the best makeup life hacks. For a long time, the best way to apply under eye concealer was in the triangular shape right below the eye. This may brighten the eye, but essentially can look heavy under the eye and too drastic compared to the shade of your foundation. Instead of this method, Sagonia recommended applying your concealer in a diagonal shape, drawn out from the lower lash line. Next, apply your concealer to just the inner portion under your eye instead to create the illusion of a lifted face.
My last tip on the list of makeup life hacks is to use a colored eyeliner as a lipliner. Lipliners can easily fade off during the day, so I recommend using a cream eyeliner, such as the NYX Epicwear Cream Eyeliner. This liner comes in a large assortment of shades, including a few different nude, red, or pink toned colors.
