7 Staples You Need In Your Fall Closet

As fall approaches, people start to put away their summer clothes and pull out their fall closet staples. The goal during the fall season is to create trendy outfits that keep you comfy and stylish. We’ve compiled a list of the best fall closet staples that will prepare you for all the fall activities, from pumpkin patches and bonfires to hayrides and haunted houses!

1. Oversized Flannel

Who doesn’t love flannels?! Flannels are one of the most versatile closet staples since they pair easily with leggings or jeans. The perfect covering for cool fall nights, flannels have become a popular trend in recent years. When paired with ankle boots, a plain t-shirt, and jeans, they scream, “I’m ready to go to the pumpkin patch!” Whether you prefer a button-up flannel or the new flannel shacket, these pieces are a must-have in your fall closet!

2. Knit Sweater

As another versatile piece of clothing, sweaters are a popular choice during the fall. You will want to have several of these closet staples in your wardrobe! Whether you choose solid or patterned, wool or cotton, turtleneck, or scoop neck, you can’t go wrong with a knit sweater! Having a few different sweater patterns and sizes will give you plenty of options when it comes to dressing for fall weather.

Oversized sweaters are a great complement to leggings for cool fall nights. Pair that outfit with some boots and a beanie, and you’re bonfire-ready! Fitted sweaters also make a cute outfit when paired with jeans and a belt. Try tucking in the front part of your sweater to show off your belt accessory!

3. Dark Jeans

Moving onto bottoms
every girl needs a few pairs of jeans in her fall closet! Dark jeans are a fashionable choice since most people don’t wear light denim after Labor Day. The wonderful thing about jeans is that they are super versatile. The different cuts, sizes, and colors make them a perfect fall closet staple. You will want to have a few different shades of denim jeans in your fall closet for different outfits. For a more professional outfit, you could wear solid jeans with a button-up or blazer. For a chill day outfit, you could pair distressed jeans with a sweatshirt or long sleeve shirt.

We recommend finding the fit of jeans that are the most flattering on your body. No two pairs of jeans are cut the same, so take your time in the store and try a wide variety of styles. Mom jeans are best paired with form-fitting tops, while skinny jeans are a great complement for looser tops. Try pairing your jeans with ankle boots and a sweater for a trendy fall outfit!

4. Striped Tee

Striped tees go with just about any outfit, which makes them one of the best fall closet staples! They are perfect for layering under dresses and jackets, or over long-sleeve shirts and sweatshirts! Stripes look best when they are paired with solids, so consider pairing your striped tee with a jean jacket and solid pants!

You may want to have a variety of striped tops in your closet. The black and white striped tee is a classic, but you could also try some shirts that have colorful stripes. Since fall wardrobes are typically filled with neutral colors, having a variety of these shirts adds a fun pop of color!

5. Tailored Trousers

Not only are tailored trousers cute and trendy, but they are also comfy! If you want to feel like you are walking around in your pajamas, these are the pants for you! These cute and comfy pants are a must-have for your fall wardrobe. Our favorite colors in these pants are black and white striped, solid beige, and hazel green. However, you can find them in almost any color! You won’t be satisfied with just one pair of these trousers!

Tailored trousers give you a break from jeans and leggings, while still allowing you to look put together. For a more professional look, try pairing the trousers with a blazer and a solid sweater. Pair these pants with a soft t-shirt or sweater for a more relaxed look. You cannot go wrong with how you style these pants!

6. Puffer Jacket

A fall wardrobe wouldn’t be complete without a puffer jacket! Puffer jackets are versatile closet staples that are sure to keep you warm and cozy. They pair well with just about any outfit, and they come in various colors and sizes. They can be a little pricey, so you may want to purchase one during the spring or summer when they are discounted! We recommend also looking at thrift stores to find gently used puffer jackets. Just make sure that the jacket does not have any stains before you buy it!

If you don’t want a full jacket, consider wearing a puffer vest! Puffer vests pair well with long sleeve shirts or sweatshirts. They add an extra layer of warmth without making your arms feel bulky! Try pairing your puffer jacket or vest with jeans and a solid shirt for a cozy fall outfit.

7. Crossbody Bag

An outfit is not complete without a few accessories! Crossbody bags are a cute and trendy way to carry your belongings without having your hands full. They come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and colors, which makes them one of the most versatile closet staples! For the fall season, you will want a bag with neutral colors, like cream, beige, brown, or gray. Since these colors are not harsh, they provide the perfect transition from bright summer colors to neutral fall tones.

If you want an even smaller bag, consider buying a fanny pack! Fanny packs are a trendy accessory that will compliment any outfit. You can wear them across your chest or around your waist! The key with all fall accessories is to make sure that they are neutral and versatile. As long as they meet those qualifications, they will be a perfect addition to your fall closet.
