6 Ways To Wear A Puffer Vest

Fall has arrived, and with it the leaves have started to change, the air is a bit cooler, and puffer vests grace the bodies of a majority of college students. I bought my first puffer vest in the sixth grade. It was light pink with faux fur around the collar and I got it from the Limited Too. How to wear puffer vests has definitely changed since my days of wearing colored skinny jeans and thermals, but that doesn’t mean there’s only one way to style our favorite vest. Here are 6 ways to make sure you get the most out of your puffer vest this season with some outfit-inspo.

1. Keep it Casual with Converse

Everyone’s instant vest outfit requires riding boots. Instead, keep it casual by pairing yours with your favorite Converse sneaker. Step up your street style and dare to mix prints as well. Large plaids couple nicely with thin stripes, as you can see below. The sneakers give your look a “girl-next-door” vibe, but the pattern play creates some serious outfit envy. All it takes is a little bit of confidence to pull off a bold look like this. If mixing patterns isn’t your thing, feel free to trade in the striped shirt for a solid, or switch out the vest. Whatever makes you feel comfortable will look great!

2. A Comfortable Monday

It takes a special person to dress up on a Monday for an 8 a.m. class. Unless that’s you, keep your style easy and comfy by layering up with a fun sweatshirt, leggings, bean boots, and of course, a puffer vest. Sure it’s not Chanel, but you still look cute and you get to be comfortable without wearing your pajamas.

3. Dress it Up

Trade in your jeans and button up for a dress instead. This look is perfect for a date, a meeting, or even an internship. Maybe you’re more like me and this outfit feels perfect for class. Regardless, anyone can class up their puffer vest, just by adding a dress.

4. The Weekend Uniform

By now, lots of people have jumped on this style craze – a puffer vest over a plaid shirt with jeans and riding boots. Perhaps the easiest way to style a vest, but don’t be afraid to make it your own and mix herringbone with plaid or add a statement necklace. Even “uniforms” can be personalized.

5. Pinterest It

Layers on layers, perfection on perfection, the Pinterest approach to the puffer vest looks flawless, and should be emulated. It might take a little longer to throw together- having to find the perfect gingham shirt, solid sweater, and accessories- but in the end, you will feel like you have achieved the master level of styling. All thanks to Pinterest!

6. Ditch the Rain Jacket

Where I go to school, rain is more likely than snow. For that reason, I propose switching out your overused rain jacket, and instead seek warmth from your vest. Grab your favorite rain boots, an umbrella and make your way across campus.
