6 Things That Happen EVERY Time You Visit Home

Once you move out, or go to college, it’s hard to find time to visit home. But when you are able to squeeze in the trip back home, there are several things that are bound to happen.

You go into a food coma.

If you’re anything like me, the first thing you do when you visit home is check the fridge. And then the pantry. And then the freezer. The amount of food seems unreal compared to your college apartment’s food. Just when you think about all the delicious things you are going to snack on, you are told that your mom is going to cook your favorite meal (and a lot of it). Basically, you just prepare to gain a few pounds and have a huge food baby the whole time you’re home.

You’re pets don’t give you the time of day.

“Awwww. I missed you soooo much!…..Wait…..Comeback.” Doesn’t everyone know the horrible moment when you miss your pets, but the feeling isn’t mutual? The times you tell your friends you miss your pet is countless. So is the number of pictures you have in your room of you and your pet. However, after the time away from him, it seems that your beloved pet forgets who you are or just doesn’t care as much about you. It’s the horrible heartbreak. But thankfully, usually soon after being home, your beloved pet forgives you for leaving. Well, that is until you leave again.

You catch up on sleep.

Even though you are supposed to be catching up with your family, NOTHING feels better than your own, familiar, comfy bed. You lay down in bed and you can somehow sleep for 12 hours straight.  At college there is a rarely a night when you get 8 hours of sleep, so this is a much-needed perk of being home. When sleeping, you feel like you are in a deep coma;  until you get waken up by your parents.

You have the awkward run-in.

No matter how much you try to avoid it, you ALWAYS run into someone you know and may not particularly want to see. This inevitably leads to awkward chitchat.

– “How’s college going?”

– Good.

–  “How’s life?”

– Good.

– “Nice seeing you!”

– You too!

It’s the same basic conversation every time you see someone, but it never gets any less awkward.

You relax.

One of the perks of going home is that you get to do absolutely nothing. Sit on the couch all day and catch up on shows your parents generously recorded for you? I think yes. The best part is, you don’t even get bothered. No one asks you to do the dishes. No one asks you to vacuum the house. No one asks you to run an errand. No one asks you to do anything.

You get spoiled.

Nearly every time you leave home, you leave with more money, new clothes, and numerous other new items. At this point, you are probably wondering why you don’t come back home more often. You know these gifts are bribes from your parents to get you to visit more…but you have to admit, it definitely works!
