5 Ways To Add Tuna Into Your Dinner

When you’re craving that salty taste of the ocean but don’t know where to get started, it can be hard to find a recipe that is a perfect fit. Tuna is a salty and cheap way to get that ocean taste you’re looking for back onto your dinner table. When you’re looking for something cheap,delicious and full of bright flavor, tuna is a great go to. 1. Fresh Ahi Salad

While most tired old recipes used canned tuna, a fresh ahi tuna salad is perfect for that fresh ocean taste and getting greens back on the menu. This recipe is especially lovely with the delicate filets of seared ahi coupled with the fresh zing of ginger. Dare to be a little bold with your next salad. 

Ingredients

  • 1 pound of ahi tuna, cooked to rare and thinly sliced
  • 6 cups of mixed greens
  • 2 cups of cucumber, noodles
  • 1 cup of red bell pepper, seeded and thinly sliced
  • 2 cups carrot, noodles
  • ½ cup wonton strips
  • 1 avocado, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp sesame seeds

Dressing

  • 3 dashes of soy sauce
  • 2 dashes of rice vinegar
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1 tsp ginger, finely minced
  • ¼ cup sesame oil
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 pinch pepper

Directions

Combine all the ingredients for the dressing. Assemble the salad by arranging your ahi tuna over the bed of greens, carrots, cucumber, wonton chips, sesame seeds. Drizzle the dressing over the top.

2. Homestyle Tuna Sandwich

Are you looking for a classic tuna melt for your next dinner? This recipe is a great way to get that tender homestyle tuna taste. The soft crunch of golden bread coupled with melty cheese is perfect for any meal. This recipe is a fast and delicious way to give you that sense of tuna comfort. 

Ingredients

  • 2 slices of American cheese
  • 2 slices of sourdough
  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • 1 can tuna, drained
  • 2 dill pickles, sliced

Directions

Begin by making your tuna salad base. Take your drained tuna and add to a small mixing bowl, add your mayonnaise and pickles. Next, lightly roast your sourdough on both sides before spreading your tuna mixture evenly on each slice of bread. Add your two slices of cheese. Take a small skillet and heat on medium low. Place your tuna sandwich in the pan and lightly roast until crispy and the cheese melted. Cut in half. Serve and enjoy.

3. Seared Ahi Steak

This tuna recipe is a lively and delicate way to cook tuna. This recipe is a shining star and stands alone as a perfect entree. The textures are immaculate, having a light crispy outside and a tender salty inside. 

Ingredients

  • 2 ahi tuna steaks
  • 2 dashes soy sauce
  • 1 tsp toasted sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1  pinch pepper
  • 1 pinch cayenne pepper
  • 1 tbsp canola oil
  • Green onions for garnish
  • Sesame seeds for garnish

Directions

Pat dry your tuna steaks with a paper towel. Take a mixing bowl and add your sesame oil, soy sauce, salt, pepper, cayenne pepper and honey. Stir until smooth. Pour over your tuna to thoroughly coat it. Let marinate for at least 10 minutes before transferring over to a skillet lined with your canola oil on medium high heat. Sear for 2 minutes on each side. Remove and transfer to a cutting board and let it rest for 3 minutes. Slice into and serve with your garnish of sesame seeds and green onions. Serve and enjoy.

4. Tuna Casserole

When you’re craving something warm for your next dinner, this recipe is a must try. Tuna casserole allows for leftovers for days. And if fresh ahi tuna is not available to you, canned tune is great for incorporating into this recipe.  If you’re looking for something warm, comforting and nostalgic for your next dinner, try this recipe out. 

Ingredients

  • 1 package of egg noodles
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 2 stalks celery, diced
  • 1 onion,diced
  • ⅔ cups frozen peas, defrosted
  • 1 can of tuna
  • 10 ½ ounces of condensed mushroom soup
  • ⅓ cup milk
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese
  • 1 tsp parsley

Crumbs

  • ½ cup panko bread crumbs
  • 1 tbsp butter, melted
  • ½ cup cheddar
  • 1 tsp parsley

Directions

Begin by preheating your oven to 425F.  Add all your ingredients for your toppings together and set to the side. Boil your noodles according to the directions and drain, set to the side. And cook your celery and onion in a medium saucepan over medium high heat until soft. About 5 to 7 minutes. In a large mixing bowl add in your noodles, peas, soup, milk, cheese and  parsley. Spread into your casserole dish and top with your crumb mixture. Bake for 18 to 20 minutes. Remove from heat. Serve and enjoy.

5. Ahi Tacos

Are you in the mood for great ahi but not necessarily a steak? Ahi tacos are a great way to bring the party back to your tuna while still getting that sweet salty taste. This recipe compliments the lightly seared tuna balancing it with the sweet fats of avocado and the sharp zing of lime.  This recipe is perfect for those who are looking for something a little more out of their ahi tuna. 

Ingredients

Mango Guacamole

  • 4 medium avocados
  • 2 tbsp cilantro, diced
  • 2 tbsp lime juice
  • 1 cup mango, diced
  • 1 pinch salt

Ahi Tuna

  • 1 pound ahi tuna
  • ⅓ cup soy sauce
  • 1 dash chili sauce
  • 1 pinch grated ginger
  • 3 tbsp sesame seeds
  • 4 tbsp olive oil

Garnish

  • Cilantro
  • ¼ cup red onion, diced
  • 8 corn tortillas

Directions

Add all the ingredients of your mango guacamole and set to the side. Prepare your tuna over medium high heat in a large skillet. Sear the ahi tuna for 2 minutes on each side. When seared, cut into strips. Heat your corn tortillas, lightly flipping.  Assemble your tacos, adding your red onion, cilantro and topping with your mango guacamole. Serve and enjoy.
