It is most important to realize what and who you need to get rid of. If you constantly feel bad about yourself after participating or communicating, then it is a toxic activity or a toxic person. Make sure you distance yourself from what is not making you feel good inside by either not talking to the person or not engaging in the toxic activity. Your inner peace is most important. It is what will bring you joy in your life.
Being busy will deter you from going backwards inside of forward. You can keep yourself busy by possibly writing journal entries or catching up on a book that you have always wanted to read. This is also a good time to catch up on your school work. Getting good grades and getting rid of toxic things in your life are both a plus!
Even if it is the toxic thing that makes you happy, find something new and refreshing. This might be hard to do, but it will be beneficial to you in the end. Even taking a shower, washing your face, or doing your hair can contribute to getting rid of toxic things. This is also the perfect time to find new hobbies that you might enjoy that are nontoxic to your mental health.
It is understandable that it is going to be hard or hurtful to stop engaging in the toxic things, but in the long run it will be more helpful toward your life than harmful. Surround yourself with positive energy that will contribute to you moving forward instead of something that will tempt you to go backwards.
Whether if it is 3 months, 6 months, 12 months, etc. Don’t be ashamed of how long it takes you because everyone progresses at their own pace. It might take you longer than others, but that is also okay. Even if you have a breakdown during the times you are trying, that is okay also. Just make sure you keep pushing through and DON’T GIVE UP!
