5 Things to Incorporate into Your Wardrobe This Summer

Summer is practically here and I know we all can’t wait to show off that summer bod we’ve worked so hard on during fall/winter. Or if you’re like me, probably didn’t work out that much, but still wanna show the body off anyway because “love the skin you’re in ” am I right? But as summer approaches, we want to be able to wear whatever is heat friendly, and still stay in style, and stay true to our style. So with that said, here are the five things you should consider incorporating into your wardrobe this summer.

1. Oversized Linen Shirts

This is a gender neutral look that should be incorporated in all of our wardrobes this summer season. What’s cool about this simple clothing item is that it can be paired with many different looks. According to GQ, “linen shirts are the key to unlocking your coolest summer outfits, literally and figuratively.” Linen shirts can be paired over your bikini or swim trunks while at the beach or on vacation. Linen shirts can be paired with denim bottoms, you can tie your linen shirt or keep it open, it can be a plain white color, or a pastel color, or one with different patterns, or it can be short or long sleeved. Either way, it’s quite clear that linen shirts can be worn however, and whenever. An important reason to incorporate linen into your wardrobe this summer is more than just for style purposes, but because the material. Linen absorbs a lot of moisture from our sweat, and it dries quickly. Also, it’s a perfect thing to wear to help cool yourself during the heat because of “its molecular structure, it can absorb as much as 1/5 of its weight before giving a feeling of being damp or wet”, according to Fabrics Galore. My suggestion to find some pretty cool looking linen shirts are to thrift them from your favorite thrift shops.

2. Cut-out Dresses/ Skirts/ Shirts

Cut-outs in your dresses, skirts, and tops (Not all at once, unless you’re into that, then go awf!) really make your outfit unique and inventive. Therefore making it necessary for your summer wardrobe. According to Refinery29 “skin is still in, and cleverly-placed cutouts on dresses, tops, even the occasional low-rise bottom will stick around as part of the Aughts 2.0 fashion movement.” Having a cut-out moment really makes the outfit risque and daring which is why it should be incorporated into your wardrobe. We all need that item that makes people turn their heads. Cut-outs have been a thing since the 1990s, and has made its presence in high fashion during Tom Ford’s iconic Gucci fall/winter 1995 show. The thing about wearing cut-out pieces during the upcoming heat is the excuse to be able to show off some skin instead of being confined to just the average skin tight outfit. We enjoy summer fashion for various reasons, however being able to wear as little as possible is usually the goal. And I don’t mean necessarily crop tops and booty shorts, but a cut-out look can be a long skirt with cut-out on only one side of the skirt, or a dress with cut-outs at each side of the rib cage area, or a top with a simple cut-out showing the color bone. This look is chic and heat friendly.

3. Bold Colors

Nothing screams summer like bold and vibrant colors in your wardrobe. It’s a no brain to add hues of  hot pinks, reds, blues, purples, or neon greens, yellows, and oranges that will make a statement in your summer wardrobe. And for the minimalists, maybe opt for a pastel version of the colors, however add color to your wardrobe! “If we’re finally going out, we’re going to look bright and bold doing it.” Go to the beach in a bold color bikini, or wear those bold colored flare pants. My personal favorite, a bold color blazer. But the key is to stand out. That’s the key thing about summer. When you think of summer, you think bold, loud, fun, and vibrant.

4. Matching Sets

Matching sets is a necessity especially if it’s one of those days you don’t feel like putting in that much effort into planning an outfit. Matching sets are a plus to add to your summer wardrobe because they really set the vibe for the day. “Matching and patterned skirt suits or pantsuits are a chic way to look stylish in both professional and casual settings, since this trend can be dressed up or down.” There’s various ways to have a matching set outfit. It can consist of blazers and their matching set of pants or skirts. It can consist of leggings and sports tops. 5. Mesh

Mesh is something that never really goes out of style. So, it’s without a question that mesh would be incorporated into your summer wardrobe. Like the cut-out trend, mesh, also known as ‘second-skin” is another way to keep your look sexy and an excuse to get that air flowing through in this up and coming heat. Mesh tops can be paired with literally any look. It pairs well with denim, underneath a dress, under a blazer, and of course over your favorite statement bralette. And there’s also mesh dresses, pants, and skirts that you can also incorporate to your wardrobe. Mesh dresses and skirts, for example, pair well with swimwear. And of course a bonus to wearing mesh is being able to feel that air flow through that mesh top! Mesh tops come in cool and different variations. You can wear a simple, plain color mesh top, or you can wear a fun one that’s patterned with different colors and tones.
