Fashion week is an opportunity to embrace and celebrate originality and creativity. The best designers in the world debuted their Spring/Summer ’23 collections during Paris Fashion Week in 2022. The pieces in this season’s collection, which blended fashion and art, had a joyous feeling and inspired imagination. Check out the top 5 runway fashion trends for spring 2023 and up your style game.
Over half of all designers featured denim in their collection this season, which was a 64% increase from the Spring/Summer collections last year. But don’t be fooled, the fabric has evolved far beyond just your humble pair of jeans. Denim is anything but boring this season. This season we’ve seen denim utilized in the creation of dresses, gowns, and co-ord sets. Emerging designer Masha Popova showed bleached denim mini dresses and full-length maxi skirts, while Burberry layered denim pieces together to create full indigo looks. Givenchy embossed denim with the brand’s signature logo and Bluemarine embellished the fabric with studs.
Slouchy jeans have been working their way up the fashion ranks for the past few seasons so if you’ve yet to swap your skinnies for something looser, now’s the time. Ease yourself in with a mom jean and work up to a boyfriend or wide-leg silhouette and keep the rest of your outfit fitted to help balance the voluminous proportions.
A denim dress is a worthy addition to your dress collection. Easy to dress up or down, look to classic silhouettes such as a shirt or midi style to ensure you get plenty of mileage out of it. You don’t have to go for the low-slung styles on the runways. A high-waist mom or wide-leg jean is much more flattering, cinching in at the waist and relaxing at the leg.
The fashion world’s attraction to all things sheer isn’t going anywhere any time soon. Approximately 77% of designers included sheer in their collections, further fortifying the trend’s popularity. The tissue-like, transparent knits were spotted all season long, but a few outfits stand out above the rest. We observed sheer tops and skirts that were layered with clearly visible bras and briefs underneath at Miu Miu, Prada, and Tory Burch. They are editorial without a doubt, but as far as sheer pieces go, they are also very wearable. This transparent trend makes the several “naked” gowns that are currently popular appear much more manageable if you’ve been scared to try one on.
We saw designers combine transparent skirts, dresses, and undergarments with branded bras, however, this trend can be styled in a variety of ways, whether it draws inspiration from the 1947 New Look or a grunge-inspired aesthetic. For a carefree and effortless ’90s look, match these transparent pieces with a plain white shirt and add a bomber jacket for extra style points. On the other hand, you can convey an old Hollywood vibe with a corset shape and A-line skirt, with limited jewelry and dainty heels. Mess around with layers for a versatile look – it’s a renewed take on an iconic fabric.
Sheer makes sense, when you think about it, as there’s an indisputable feeling of freedom, mischievousness, and seductiveness about these pieces. Taking a more modest approach to the trend, midi slip skirts and see-through tops are must-haves for your wishlists.
Y2K is back! I’m happy to report that the popular silhouette from 2022—cargo pants—will continue to be popular in 2023. The trendsetters are here to show that cargo pants are cooler than ever, even though five years ago you might not have predicted that they would be one of the major fashion week trends. It’s always gratifying when seasonal patterns persist, demonstrating their adaptability at a different time of year and supporting our initial choices to adopt them.
There are so many stunning cargo designs available this spring that strikes the ideal balance between style and practicality. The casual, roomy style of the pants was preserved by designers, who added softer materials like the satin renditions at Fendi and Jil Sander.
When paired with a simple white t-shirt, this trend is relaxed but still chic. Change your sneakers for a pair of stilettos or chunky boots for extra height to elevate the look for different occasions. Layers are a crucial component to include; lively colors go well with khaki-inspired military attire. Even so, you can stick to the color scheme by adding coats or cardigans in complementary tones.
Sunset colors resembling the ombre skies you’d see on a beach getaway were all over the runway in the majority of the designs. Reds, yellows, and oranges were perfectly combined on catwalks, conveying a sense of serenity and relaxation. This trend was featured predominately with brands like Ferragamo, Etro, and GCDS who embraced ombre hues.
The urge to escape to the seashore and have a carefree swim has heavily influenced the designers’ choice of colors, as have fascinating excursions to other locations. Hop on the trend this spring/summer season by creating looks that are primarily monochromatic, using warm, bold colors. You won’t regret the purchase if you find a piece with this sunset shading.
Another lingering fashion concept is utilizing underwear as outerwear. Since the appearance doesn’t offer much warmth, it is obviously more suited to spring and summer seasons. However, you can anticipate a more vintage-inspired twist on the look
Expect to see gowns with corset-like tops or fitting bodices paired with statement skirts that are larger. A-line silhouettes are becoming more popular while romanticizing shapewear and undergarments. Slip dresses, a common appearance for work or play, recovered fashion ground with the ’90s trend but have now solidified their position with the lingerie style. Look for styles that graze the thigh, silky materials, and lace accents.
Corset-style shirts and dresses with bonded bodices are good ways to ease yourself into this difficult trend. If you’re feeling a little bold, try wearing a bralette under a blazer and a pair of high-waisted fitted pants. This allows you to participate in the trend without showing a lot of skin.
