5 Summer Skincare Tips For Glowing Skin

While a perfect skin-care routine should be used all year long, during the summer time, it can be easy to forget the important steps to maintain healthy glowing skin while being busy. At least that’s the case for me. If it’s not the case for you, then here is a cyber high-five to congratulate you.

Good skin care is important. Why?

Since you are shedding skin cells all day every-day, it’s important to keep your skin healthy. This alone can prevent you from getting acne (which we all do not like), treat wrinkles and possible help prevent them and overall, a good skin-care routine helps your skin look the best it can be. If you have good a routine now while in your early 20’s and 30’s, it can help you later down the road as you get older. Truthfully, I didn’t understand the importance of good skin care until I was out of high-school and on my own. When I went to Cancun, Mexico for my graduation trip, I got awfully burnt from laying out in the sun to the point where I could not move for an entire day because I was hurting so bad and since then, I wear sunscreen on the daily and do my best to take care of my skin. It is our biggest organ and we only have one life, so it’s best we take care of it while we can. Right? If you’re like me and want to keep my healthy looking skin, although you might be crazy busy, here are some Summer Skincare Tips that you can use all year long.

SPF, SPF, SPF — Again, SPF, SPF, SPF

Why is using sunscreen everyday important? Don’t worry, I will tell you because it’s in the top 5 Summer Skincare Tips. Our skin protects us from the sun’s harmful ultraviolet radiation. Using sunscreen protects us from those UV Rays that can damage our skin. Although you may look outside and it’s cloudy, or even rainy with insane thunder and lightning, our skin is still susceptible to the suns rays behind those clouds. If you don’t wear sunscreen, then there is a possibility that in the future you could have skin discoloration, wrinkles or even skin cancer and that’s why you should be applying it in the morning and in the evening as well. SPF also reduces the risk of getting sunburns and I don’t know about you, but when I burn, I burn very badly. Don’t get me wrong, I love getting tan, but being burnt makes me miserable and I then beat myself up for not applying enough sunscreen.

How do you choose the right sunscreen?

There are SO many types of sunscreens in the stores and honestly, it can become a tad bit overwhelming when trying to figure out which one to purchase. What I have learned is that you should be purchasing SPF 30 or higher. Why? It will offer you better protection against those UV rays. It’s also important to make sure that the label on the sunscreen bottle says that it’s broad-spectrum or that it protects your skin from UVA and UVB because if you don’t, it’s not going to protect your skin. If you know that you will be spending a large amount of time in the water, make sure that the sunscreen is water resistant and reapply after you get out of the water, too.

What are some of the best sunscreens out there right now?

Vitamin C serum is a must

What is one of the top Summer Skincare Tips? Investing in a Vitamin C serum that is. Why? It’s a powerful antioxidant that stimulates collagen production. I use this everyday because it’s known to be one of the best anti-aging products and I don’t know about you, but I want to stay looking young for as long as humanly possible. I also love Vitamin C serums because it brightens up my face, too. If you have hyperpigmentation, wrinkles or even a sunburn, it will help with all of that as well.

You can’t forget to exfoliate

I never knew the importance of exfoliating my skin until I asked my dermatologist why I felt as though I was getting more acne than usual. His answer? I need to exfoliate more. It’s in his top three Summer Skincare Tips, too. Doing this can prevent clogged pores which can result in cleaner, healthier skin. It can also increase collagen production which can help create glowing skin. Did you know that your skin sheds dead skins approximately every 30 days? Exfoliating can help remove those dead skin cells and keep your skin soft. So go an exfoliate. Exfoliate away!

What are some of the best exfoliators?

Kate Somerville’s ExfoliKate Intensive Exfoliating Treatment. Price: $28.00

Youth To The People, Mandelic Acid and Superfood Unity Exfoliant. Price: $38.00

Moisturize, Moisturize

Moisturizing your skin can help protect your skin from becoming irritated. If you have oily or dry skin, it can also help your skin as well and can prevent acne from occuring. I’ve also noticed that when using a moisturizer, it helps give my skin that young glow that I’ve always wanted. In a way, it helps repairs my skin when I do break out or stay out in the sun too long. My favorite part about moisturizer is that it helps fight wrinkles and I don’t know about you, but I am way too young to have wrinkles.

Moisturizers to use:

Purely Simple Face Cream from Osmia. Price: $62.00

Olay Regenerist Cream. Price: $19.29

La Mer Creme de la Mer Moisturizer. Price: $360.00

Eat healthy!

You are what you eat. That is the saying… right? If you eat healthy food, then your skin will love you. I would say out of all the Summer Skincare Tips, this is number one on the list. If you think about it, what you have in the kitchen is a lot of natural ingredients that will help give your skin that natural glow than most products will. It’s true. So, what are some of the foods you can eat for healthy glowing skin? Sweet potatoes, avocados, berries, walnuts, broccoli, greens, turmeric, honey and so much more. You only have one body, so be kind to it and eat healthy as much as you can because your skin will love you for it
