5 Shows To Binge During Labor Weekend

Another long holiday weekend is ahead of us. Preparing us for the short days fall brings. As a college student, looking forward to the extended weekend means homework has been completed, laundry has been washed and folded, and possibly meals have been made, or you have decided to go for the easier option – take-out food. Either way, all is left to do is rest and catch up on new and old shows. Below, I share 5 shows you should add to your list or binge during labor weekend.

1. Little Women

Are you looking for ways to get into K-Dramas? Look no further; this show has enough drama, suspense, and thriller to make you watch it. But, be aware most of the entire time, you will find yourself filled with anger and confusion.  Little Women is about 3 sisters who grew up in poverty; unexpectedly, they get involved in a case that leads them to fight the most influential family in the south. While there are only 10 episodes available to watch, with each being 1 hour long and their final episode airing on October 9th – perfect way to commence your labor weekend binge. And, there’s no better way than grabbing a box of pizza, putting your phone on do not disturb, and immersing yourself fully in a show you do not want to wait until the following week to air.

2. Anne With An E

A coming-of-age story about a 13-year-old orphan who is an outsider who fights for radical change, acceptance, and her place in the world and love. The drama evokes current and relatable stories about sexism, themes of identity, bullying, and prejudice. A story that many of us can relate to due to society’s labels and standards. Anne With An E is one of those shows that will make you cry, laugh, and open your mind all at the same time while teaching life’s most valuable lesson – Not matter where we come from, imagination is an open door, and to live is to learn all that life has to offer. So dive into Anne with An E world and text me how you feel after.

3. Attack On Titan

Looking for an anime show with a perfect storyline? Attack on Titan is a Japanese animated series written by Hajime Isayama. With 4 seasons each being 22 episodes long and the last season having 40 episodes (better than Grey’s Anatomy) in my opinion, I highly recommend adding this one to your list to watch during labor weekend. The story is set in a world where humanity is forced to live in cities surrounded by walls that protect them from carnivores – gigantic humanoids.

To be completely honest, there are moments in the episodes where it’s a slow start, and you might find yourself asleep because there’s so much history being developed during the plot that sometimes there’s little to no action. Nonetheless, don’t let that alarm you, or don’t judge the book by its cover; as a good saying says, everything is worth the wait. And this show is one of them.

4. Tomorrow

I can’t help; ever since I learned about K-dramas, they have genuinely been my go-to. Tomorrow is another relatable fantasy element show based on a group of grim reapers entrusted with saving suicidal humans and having to prove to them how important and meaningful life really is. Touched by the first episode, you’ll experience anger, sadness, and somewhat being helpless as you may tend to immerse yourself with each character. The storyline of tomorrow encounters bullying and people that give up on living their lives due to life itself – survival. While this show meets heavy-hitting issues, it’s time for humans to normalize talking about such matters.

5. Elite

For my Spanish-speaking lovers, the show Elite [ Las Encinas], explores the concept of teen drama- between three working-class students who enroll at the school through a scholarship and their wealthy classmates and an unexpected sudden death. The television series is created by, Carlos Montero and Dario Madrona. If you have watched How To Get Away With Murder, the Elite show has somewhat of the same type of thrill, romance, and suspense.

Extra: 6-Vampire Diaries

*spoilers* The number of times I have watched this show is unexplainable. With various seasons and the first 6 being my favorite. It is set in the town of Virginia – Mystic Falls, and two brothers, who are 162-year-old named Stefan Salvatore and an older brother named Damon Salvatore, killed by their love Katerina Petrova who also plays Elena. The best part about Vampire Diaries is that there is a sequel called The Originals, which takes back to the creation of vampires and how tragic their lives had to be to survive from their dangerous parents. What I love the most about this show, it’s the way they make the subject history become your favorite subject in school. On the plus side, it makes you dream that your high school celebrated each holiday and gave respect to the way history has been told. Vampire Diaries and the Originals, their storyline is one to thoroughly enjoy. There’s suspense, a mystery, and the best part, a love about an ordinary girl who repeats the same story as the one from her ancestor – she falls in love with both brothers.
