5 Movies to Look Out for Coming in 2023
Dune Part Two
The first Dune film was released in 2021 and was a big hit in the box office. Being a modern day of the hit book series by Frank Herbert, Denis Villeneuve directed a beautiful film with an all-star cast. The first film exceeded the expectations of fans of the books while also reeling in a new audience and quickly became one of the best movies of the year. Not too long after the film left theaters, the cast took to social media to officially announce the sequel. Fans of the books know that the first film only covered about half of the first book which means that Dune Part Two will be wrapping up that other half. With Villeneuve returning to direct and the same cast set to return as well, fans are in for another amazing ride. With an already powerful cast consisting of Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Stellan Skarsgård, Josh Brolin, Javier Bardem, and Rebecca Ferguson returning, Dune Part Two is also adding Florence Pugh, Austin Butler and Christopher Walken to the mix. This film is promised to be even bigger than the first and fans of the series know what is left to come. Dune Part Two is set to release October 20th, 2023.
A Quiet Place Day One
While not too much has been released about this film yet, enough is known about the franchise to spark some excitement. The first two movies in the horror franchise were ginormous hits in both the box office and with audiences around the world. The two movies established a tone and story that was fresh and never seen before. John Krasinski both wrote and directed the first two installments of this franchise and is now handing over the mantle to director Michael Sarnoski. The plot for this film is still under development and no casting details have been shared with the public just yet. While we do have a release date of September 22nd, 2023, enough information is given to us in the name of the film alone. The film will serve as a prequel to the first two movies and explore the events of that world that occurred during the first day of the invasion. A concept briefly explored in A Quiet Place Part 2; fans were left wanting more from that very first encounter with the threat. A Quiet Place Day One should scratch that itch for a lot of fans.
Blue Beetle
While Warner Bros. and DC Comics have been struggling to find their footing with their films, there are a few projects being made that have fans hopeful for something good. Blue Beetle is a character that is not too popular with the general media. Many fans of the comics and animated shows know Blue Beetle to be DC Comic’s version of Spider-Man in terms of being a witty teenager with a lot on his plate. The film is being directed by Angel Manuel Soto and is starring Xolo Maridueña, George Lopez, and Bruna Marquezine. While not much is known about the story itself, fans of the comics know that there are a lot of different ways that this film can go. A few weeks ago, fans were given a treat as some leaked photos from the set revealed our first look at Xolo as Jaime Reyes, the Blue Beetle. Fans were ecstatic to see that the costume for the character would be practical and not CGI. While DC has made a lot of mistakes with some of their films recently, this film seems to be one that they won’t interfere with too much. Blue Beetle is set to hit theatres August 18th, 2023, and audiences should expect and comedic yet heartwarming sci-fi, action film.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
The conclusion to the hit series, this film will be the final time we see the guardians as we know and love them. Back in 2014, the world was taken by storm by Guardians of the Galaxy. The film that both general audiences and comic fans were not too hopeful in. James Gunn took a group of unknown characters and turned them into common household names. After the success of the first film, the guardians returned in a sequel before teaming up with the Avengers in Avengers Infinity War and Avengers Endgame. The guardians are also to appear in this year’s Thor Love and Thunder before concluding their story next year. James Gunn has teased that a lot of audiences will laugh and cry with the final film. Fans have been speculating that one of the guardians will die in this film, leading to the end of the team. No matter what happens in this film, we know for sure that there will be a lot of action, good songs, great visuals, and heart. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 is set to hit theatres May 5th, 2023.
Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse
After the hit that was 2018’s Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse, audiences around the world were introduced to Miles Morales. Going on to win the Oscar that year for best animated film, it was no question that a sequel would be coming soon. The first film introduces us to brand new versions of Spider-Man from different universe and this created a lovable and comedic cast with many different colors. The first film’s end credit scene teased that more was to come and next year, we will finally be getting the long-awaited sequel. Not too much has been revealed about the plot and no new characters have been officially announced yet. We do know however, that our team of Spider-Men will be traveling the multiverse battling the super villain Spot. Spot is a lesser-known villain from the comics that can open portals to different universes with the spots on his bodies. Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse is set to hit theatres June 2nd, 2023. Fans can expect another great film filled with adventure and amazing visuals cushioned with an outstanding cast and heartwarming story.
