Directions
Toast your chilies in a dry pan over medium heat, stir constantly. Cook for about 3 minutes and transfer over to a blender with your chicken broth. Next, heat 2 cups of chicken broth in a saucepan until it begins to simmer, then add to the blender. Toast your dinner roll pieces and corn tortillas over medium heat and transfer to the blender. Allow for everything to soften for about 10 minutes before blending the mixture until smooth. Cook your tomatoes and tomatillos in a dry skillet over medium high heat until soft, around 3 to 4 minutes. Place into the puree in the blender. Next, melt your lard in a skillet over medium heat, stir in your onion, garlic, peanuts, raisins, cumin, thyme, cinnamon sticks, cloves and allspice berries. Cook until soft, about 5 to 8 minutes. Remove the cinnamon sticks and other whole spices. Add onion and garlic to your blender. Take your blended puree and place in a saucepan over medium heat, stir in your chocolate chicken broth, sugar and salt. Bring the mixture to a rolling simmer, then reduce for 10 to 15 minutes.
