Makeup techniques are hard to achieve if you aren’t sufficient in that area! With so many tools and beauty influencers online, it can put you on your butt confused! I’ve been there, running into several brick walls in the process with lots of makeup products to give away. I will say this part of life will always be trial and error because we are all unique. My face shape, skin type, undertone, fine lines amongst other categories will set me apart from the next makeup wearer. This being a fact I can not mimic every technique that I see someone else do. That’s OK though! We are all different and this is what makes makeup a substantial business.
We are free to do and play as we please. When it comes to techniques this is where you have to try and try again. There a million techniques out there that will improve your makeup skills by far. So don’t be discouraged if you haven’t gotten everything down in one attempt. This list will start you off in the right direction to applying your makeup beautifully just like you are! So come on and grab your makeup tools!
Yes, this is a technique! Concealers are used to conceal dark marks, acne, dark circles, and other blemishes that we want to hide. We also use concealer to brighten the under-eye and T-zone area on our faces. Having brightness in the T-zone adds dimension to the face and gives it a natural appearance. Applying the concealer down first before foundation allows the makeup to look more brighten from within. This also allows you to not have to use so many other products.
Concealers are thicker in consistency naturally, so most of them provide you the coverage you want without having to layer on a foundation. I love to go in with a few dots in my T-zone area and letting the concealer under my eyes sit the longest. After blending out the other areas like my forehead, nose, upper lip, and chin, I then blend out the under eyes. I let the concealer under the eyes sit the longest so it can dry down just a bit and give me that brightness I want to achieve. This technique will surely have you feeling like a pro and will save you lots of products.
This one is not for the faint of heart! Consider yourself warned. Adding loose power under your foundation can sound a bit daunting, I know. I felt the same way when I saw Jackie Aina on YouTube do it for the first time! It is a technique that is recommended for people with oily skin. The loose powder acts as an oil absorber underneath your makeup to keep you less oily throughout the day. I noticed that whatever primer I use and use this technique that I am way less oily than normal.
If you have oily skin then you know the struggle from the sun shining too hard or moving around a lot can make your face shine like a new penny. This technique will eliminate that problem. Another pro to using this technique is you don’t have to use a lot of powder after the fact. Your makeup will apply so smoothly and matte that when you go to apply finishing powder, you’ll notice you don’t need it. Please note that only matte loose powder works for this! Using a shimmery-based powder will only enhance your shine, defeating the purpose of it all. Here’s to no more penny looks!
Hairspray is a great invention. It keeps our hairstyles in place when we want to go out and look cute. However, it is a multi-functional product that can be used in makeup! On New Year’s Eve, I decided I would try this hack after knowing about it for years! Let me tell you, my browser was snatched right along with everything else. I did mention previously that I di have oily skin, which affects my brows as well. Using the hairspray actually held my brows in place all night! I felt like I could have rubbed them and they would not budge.
I went in with the hairspray on a spoolie (eyebrow brush) and proceeded to brush it in my hairs going upward. I let the product dry and I touched it just to make sure it was completely dry and then went on to do my brow routine. It didn’t give me any problems as far as doing my brow routine and like I said it lasted all night! I would say to remove it, use an oil-based makeup remover so you don’t damage your eyebrow hairs. This a tip for you all-nighters!
This tip is one I love to do! On certain occasions, I do my makeup before I shower. This is when I’ve showered the night before and just want a quick pick-me-up shower. When I have a special occasion or something of that sort, I opt to shower first! However, the steam really sets my makeup like no other makeup product. It really makes your makeup look like skin! For some I understand how showering with makeup on isn’t ideal but I promise you’ll the results after.
I will say take a thorough shower the night before or whenever so that way you are more in the shower for the steam. Also, be aware to not get water splashes on your makeup because this can cause watermarks to imprint. This technique does not have to be used every day if you don’t want to. You can also simply run the shower water and then allow the steam to flow but I really don’t advise that. It can increase your water bill and isn’t really good for the environment. We are beautiful but still have to environmentally conscious.
Eyeshadows are a great multi-functional product to create some looks you’ll love. You can use eyeshadows as blush, eyeliner, and even lipstick! If you do want to make lipstick out of eyeshadow all you need is oil. Mix the shadow of your choice and oil into a pan and then apply! You can also use lipstick as blush, and eyeshadow as eyeliner. Don’t limit your makeup to just one task, it can serve you in other areas as well!
