Ingredients

  • 1 can of green beans
  • 1 pound of wax beans
  • 1 can kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • ¾ cup white sugar
  • ⅔ white vinegar
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 pinch black pepper
  • 1 pinch celery seed

Directions

Combine all ingredients and refrigerate for a few hours before serving. Enjoy.

2. Spicy Chili

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ pound ground beef
  • 1 ½ pound Italian sausage
  • 3 cans of stewed tomatoes
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 green pepper, chopped
  • 1 can tomato paste
  • 2 jalapeno peppers, chopped
  • 2 pinches of chili powder
  • 2 tbsp white vinegar
  • 1 tbsp spicy brown mustard
  • 1 pinch dried oregano
  • 2 cloves of garlic, peeled and minced
  • 1 large pinch cumin
  • 1 tsp of hot pepper sauce
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 pinch paprika
  • 1 dollop of sour cream

Directions

In a Dutch oven, cook your beef and sauce on medium high heat until it is cooked through, about 5 to 7 minutes. Break it into crumbles and drain. Add the remaining ingredients and bring to a rolling boil. Reduce to a rolling simmer and cook for 30 minutes. Remove from heat and serve with jalapeno slices and sour cream. Enjoy.

3. Brown Sugar Baked Beans

This recipe is perfect for when you’re craving something hearty and especially sweet. Nothing comes close to the combination of bacon with caramelized brown sugar. When you’re looking for the taste of a Texas barbecue cook out for your next bean craving, this recipe is perfect for you. 

Ingredients

  • 10 slices of bacon, diced
  • 1 white onion, diced
  • ½ green bell pepper, diced
  • 54 oz can pork and beans
  • ¼ cup molasses
  • 4 tbsp ketchup
  • ⅔ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup cider vinegar
  • 2 tsp dry mustard

Directions

Start by cooking your bacon about half way through. Set to the side on a paper towel lined plate. Once cooled enough to touch, chop into small pieces. Preheat your oven to 325F. In a deep skillet, heat 2 tbsp of bacon grease on medium high heat. Add in your onion and green pepper and saute about 5 minutes until softened. Add the remaining ingredients and let simmer for an additional minute. While it is simmering, grease a baking dish. Pour your beans into the baking dish and lay the bacon on top of the beans. Bake for 2 to 3 hours. Remove from heat and let cook for 5 minutes. Serve and enjoy.

4. Kung Pao White Beans

This recipe is a great way to get that sweetness of fresh veggies while getting the rich depth of white beans into your next meal. This recipe can be incorporated into any meal and is a great way to eat your veggies for your next bean craving. 

Ingredients

  • ⅓ cup peanuts
  • 3 tbsp jalapeno pepper, sliced
  • 1 white onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves of garlic, chopped
  • 1 inch ginger, chopped
  • 1 pinch red pepper
  • ½ red bell pepper
  • ½ green bell pepper
  • 2 cans of white beans
  • 1 serving of kong pao sauce

Directions

Begin by heating your oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the peanuts and stir fry them for one minute until golden brown. Add in your jalapeno peppers slices, garlic, ginger and onion. Cook for 5 to 7 minutes until veggies are soft and begin to caramelize. Sprinkle in the crushed red pepper. Add the red and green bell peppers and cook for another 10 minutes. Add ¼ cup of water. Stir in the sauce and cook for 20 to 30 minutes until it becomes thick. Add the white beans in and stir thoroughly. Serve and enjoy.

5. Cajun Red Beans

Looking for something sweet and smokey for your next dinner? This cajun red beans recipe is both heart, spicy and warm. This recipe is not for the faint of heart, this bean recipe packs a punch and is perfect for any spice lovers. When you’re looking for something to warm you up, try this recipe out. 

Ingredients

  • 1 can of red beans, soaked and softened
  • 15 cups of water
  • 6 large ham hocks
  • 2 ½ cups celery, diced
  • 2 cups of green bell pepper, diced
  • 1 yellow onion, diced
  • 2 large pinches white pepper
  • 2 large pinches of thyme leaves
  • 1 pinch oregano
  • 1 pinch cayenne pepper
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 pinch pepper
  • 1 tbsp hot sauce
  • 1 pound smoked sausage, sliced
  • 5 cups of white rice, cooked

Directions

Cover your beans with cold water and let soak overnight. Drain and rinse the beans under cold water before cooking them. Place your ham hocks, 9 cups of water, onion, celery, green bell peppers, bay leaves, and seasonings. Mix thoroughly. Cover the Dutch oven and stir the mixture well. Cover and bring to a boil over a high heat. Remove the lid and reduce the heat and let simmer for 1 hour. Remove from the ham hocks from the Dutch Oven and set them to the side. Discard the water in the Dutch Oven. Add in the drained beans and 4 cups of water. Bring to a boil and reduce the heat. Simmer for 30 minutes, stirring. Next, add in two more cups of water and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring often. Add in your sausage and let simmer for an additional 25 to 35 minutes. Shred the ham hocks and add them back to the Dutch oven for an additional 10 minutes. Serve on rice and enjoy.
