The cowbell tradition came from when a Jersey cow walked on the field during a game State was losing. The workers had to use cowbells to get the cow off the field. State came back and won the game; thus the cowbell good luck charm began. Now students receive decorated cowbells from their friends and/or family to use during their time at State.
