I’m not going to lie to you, makeup is not my forte. I was never taught how to put eyeliner on, how to choose the right shade of lipstick or simply how to put mascara on and I’m sure there are plenty of you out there who are in the same boat as me. There are some things we learn how to do overtime and makeup, well, I still haven’t caught onto all of the tips and tricks. But I’m trying. I thank Youtube and close friends who are makeup queens because there have been some events that I have attended where I just needed a little help from friends in the makeup department.
Whether you’re a makeup lover or not, it’s your choice. But in the end, we are women and we are fierce. If you have to throw on some makeup to make yourself feel good everyday or throw on some blush when the day is just not going the way you thought it would go, then so be it. You do you, girlfriend. This is a judgement free zone and it’s important to do what you feel is comfortable. If you’re in the process of learning about makeup and how to perfectly apply it onto your already beautiful face, you might be asking yourself: What are some of the Makeup Trends right now? And I’m here to tell you that they are EVERYTHING.
If you’re paying any attention to any of the hottest fashion trends, you might have heard that the 90s are back and with that, one of the hottest Makeup Trends are with people rocking the brightest of blushes. From the bold peaches and bright pinks, you’re seeing this makeup trend all over the world.
Are you ready for history time? Did you know that ancient Egyptians were some of the first people to use blush? They mixed natural ingredients, ground red ochre (a natural earth pigment) and fat together to create a red shade that men and women would use on their lips and cheeks. Romans used red vermillion (another pigment), while Greeks used mulberries to add color to their faces. Eventually it was learned that the clay/chalk type powder that they were using was actually toxic, therefore it could no longer be used. Let’s face it, makeup has come a long way since then and it’s amazing to see where it originated from. Blush is still used to brighten pale, tired-looked skin, but it’s also used to add depth to those with darker skin tones. It can make your skin look brighter and healthier, so if you’ve had a couple days when you haven’t felt the greatest, apply some brush and no one will be able to tell that you’ve been feeling the blues.
Glossy lips are in and so are bold lips, too. Wear a bold lip to a first date, party or even doing errands around town. This is one of the hottest Makeup Trends of the summer and you don’t want to miss out. You’ve probably seen celebrities do makeup tutorials and many of them include demonstrating on how to do a bold lip. Here are those steps below:
Step 1: Prep your lips. Exfoliate them using a lip scrub then use a washcloth to wash them.
Step 2: Use lip balm to hydrate them. This also makes the application of lipstick easier.
Step 3: Apply lip primer which will keep your lips moist and make your lipstick last longer so that you don’t keep reapplying all day.
Step 4: Stain them with your fingers (using your lipstick obviously)
Step 5: Use a lip pencil to help define them.
Step 6: Line your lips using your pencil fully.
Step 7: Fill those lips in with a lip brush.
Step 8: Set your lips by using a tissue.
Step 9: Voila, you have a bold lip!
It’s all in the eyes and you know it. One of the hottest Makeup Trends this year is using bright eyeshadows with enhanced features with lots and lots of glitter. Why not add some rhinestones to the corner of your eye to make a statement while on a girls night out? As previously mentioned, the 90s are back and bright colors are everything.
What is tantouring you might ask? Well I will tell you. It’s tanning and contouring all in one. According to Allure, “you take your facial self-tanner and apply it as you would a traditional contour product. This gives you the tan you want, including definition, making the results look more natural.” (Allure) Truthfully, I had no idea that this was a thing, but after talking to my friends who are incredibly makeup-savvy, it’s a thing and they love it. Have you tried this makeup trend?
Although I prefer wearing no makeup, out of all the Makeup Trends on this list, my favorite one is the no-makeup look. We all are all beautiful and let’s be real, wearing too much makeup can sometimes be overwhelming or can simply… just not look good. You all have most likely heard the saying, “a little goes a long way” and it’s true. Keeping it simple can oftentimes be the way to go when applying makeup. If you’re curious to how to achieve this look, read below for some tips and tricks.
Step 1: Hydrate your skin by using a hydrating mask which will help moisturize it.
Step 2: Use primer to get a smooth base.
Step 3: Don’t overdo it on the coverage and use a tinted moisturizer instead.
Step 4: If you want to hide your blemishes and dark circles, use a light concealer and blend with your fingers.
Step 5: Don’t use powders, use creams. They’re easier to blend and look more natural.
Step 6: Want to make your face look glowy? Use dew which will help give your skin a sparkly effect!
Step 7: Apply a small amount of blush to the cheeks, temples and nose.
Step 8: Brush up your brows by using a brow gel. Brush them to get the look you want.
Step 9: Apply mascara (or don’t) but use it lightly. Curl your lashes, too if you wanted.
Step 10: By using lipstick or gloss, fancy up your lips however you would like.Voila, you’re finished!
