20 Reasons ESU is the Best School on Earth

Keep reading for 20 reasons why ESU is the best school on the planet!

1. The views are breathtaking.

ESU is located in the Poconos, which means that we can see one of the most popular vacation destinations from our windows.  On a foggy morning, the mountains are a sight you cannot miss.

2. The party scene is thriving.

As one of the number one party schools in America, we can bring the party.  We may be small, but we are mighty.

3. The amazing professors will help you succeed.

ESU has a knack for hiring fantastic professors.  Get to know them on a deeper level and you won’t be disappointed.

4. Strong academic programs will get you places.

Programs such as the ESU Education program is well known all over PA, even if the school isn’t as widely known.  The Theatre Program is another strong contender.

5. The small size helps create strong bonds.

ESU is smaller than your average university, but it works for us.  What we lack in size, we gain in heart.

6. There are alternatives to traditional dorms.

If you are like me, traditional dorms scare the pants off of you.  Lucky for us, ESU also has the Ridge, the Suites, and the University Apartments to choose from.

7. Our Woody Award Winning Radio Station is the bee’s knees.

Pardon the antiquated expression, but our DJs and radio personalities are amazing.  The award is well deserved.

8. The theater and musical theater clubs put on spectacular shows.

The talent in these groups is incredible.  From musicals such as The Wizard of Oz to Spiked Heels and Lord of the Flies, every performance is a must-see.  Make sure you check out a play and see their Cabaret event as well.  You will be amazed at the Broadway level skills these performers have.

9. The Stroud Courier keeps you updated and entertained.

Everything you need to know is in the student run school paper.  They are not afraid to tell us the truth, even when it isn’t always pleasant.  You can always do the crosswords during your break.

10. The plethora of groups and clubs you can join will keep you in great company.

Learn new skills and discover your interests by joining a group or club.  Fraternities and sororities are also a good way to meet people.

11. The Writing Studio will help you when you need it.

The Writing Studio is one of the best things ESU has to offer.  They can help you with your writing and are helpful.  Visit them at Kemp Library and bring an essay or assignment.

12. The price won’t break the bank (well not completely).

You really get a bang for your buck at ESU.  It is cheaper than most schools, even if it doesn’t feel like it.

13. There are state of the art fitness centers.

Planet Fitness has nothing against Mattioli and Rec B.  The equipment is really nice, and it conveniently is included in your tuition.

14. Group fitness classes make working out fun.

Speaking of fitness, the Zumba classes are loads of fun and provide students with a great workout.  Make the freshmen 15 a myth by attending at least one class.

15. The people are actually decent human beings.

The first thing I noticed when I got to ESU is how polite and friendly most people are.  Everyone holds the door for each other and knows when to say please and thank you.

16. We have so many snow days.

One of the perks about being in the mountains is that we get snow—lots of it.  So, our snow days are many.  One semester, we had like 5 Mondays off in a row.  Plus, our snow days are epic.

17. Lasting friendships define your experience at ESU.

Once you find your niche, you know you have friends for life.  If you were ostracized for being weird in high school, then you are celebrated for that trait once you find your group at school.  Believe it or not, there are people who love talking about Shakespeare for hours at a time or whatever other strange topic you love to chat about.

18. ESU sushi is actually pretty good.

You’d think that cafeteria sushi is not something you’d ever like, but the sushi at ESU is surprisingly tasty.  There is a nice variety of rolls to choose from, and you can even make up your own.  The only downside is that they have only one woman making them, so she only serves them for a couple of hours, but here’s to hoping they find someone else to help her and spread the sushi love throughout the day.

19. Make some extra cash with a variety of on-campus employment opportunities.

ESU always has positions open for those who need to work while they go to school (which is pretty much everyone), and most of the jobs are pretty cushy.  You can get your schoolwork done and make bank at the same time.

20. There is always something to do.

While East Stroudsburg (or Stroudsburg) may be a small community located in the middle of nowhere, ESU makes sure to keep the student population entertained.  They always do a good job bringing in comedians, musicians, petting zoo animals, bingo games, karaoke, dances, laser tag, and more for the students to enjoy.  I mean we got Panic! At the Disco to come to ESU for a decent price and discounted tickets for students.  Don’t be fooled by its small size; ESU is a force to be reckoned with.
