If you have been or are currently in any A Cappella Group you will definitely be able to relate to these signs!
Especially on campus, it’s completely acceptable to just start singing. And when your best friend joins right in with the high harmony, you don’t get weird looks, you get nods of approval.
At least until you learn the official choreo, no dance move is wrong as long as you’re rocking out and having a good time.
Ok, even I’ll admit that this one gets a little acca-annoying even among the acca-community, but if Fat Amy can do it, so can we.
It’s cliché, but it’s true. Instruments are great, but there’s nothing quite like human voices blended together in song.
Everyone likes to show off and be the center of attention. Whether it’s nerve-wracking or exciting or a weird combination of the two, you can always walk off the stage feeling great.
Nonsense words like “Dim-dah” and “Jimma-din”. If you can’t act like you’re singing a love song to the particularly attractive audience member when you’re really just singing “doo-da” 72 times in a row, you’re not going to connect. So you learn how to sell it.
That being said, the key to really selling anything is in the facial expressions. RBF just isn’t an option, so you learn to raise those eyebrows and smile, (and maybe even throw in a wink or two).
Ok, maybe not you personally, but there are at least 12 people who would trade places with you in a heartbeat. It’s hard to take something for granted when you know there are people who would give anything to be where you are.
Have you heard voices sing in harmony? Because it’s pretty incredible. Sometimes you’ve just got to take a step back and appreciate what’s going on around you.
“Mommy made me mash my M+M’s, oh my,” and at least 17 other inappropriate variations of that warm-up are just part of the A Capella life.
Every group has those people who can just step out and slay. They deserve every bit of the love they get.
Those Basses (and Alto 2’s!) can really grab the deep notes that seem to shake the very foundation of the music itself. But don’t forget about those high notes! Sometimes a soprano or a particularly strong tenor will jump up to a note that seems like it should shatter glass, but instead it just blows people’s minds.
If you’re lacking any self-confidence, all you have to do is step out onstage and crush a performance. It’ll remind you that you’ve at least got something going for you.
We’re really not sure how it happens, but the people who sing in A Cappella groups are all just incredibly attractive, so you’ll be spending plenty of time with people who are just total eye candy. The bad news is that you can’t really risk dating any of them because nobody wants drama in the group.
They say that you bond with people you sing with, and anybody in an A Cappella group can vouch for that. Not only do you meet incredible people and find a solid group of friends, but they become the people you spend your weekends with and eat every meal with. You’re tight-knit, and nothing comes between those bonds.
