15 Best Movies To Watch With Your Family

Sure seems like we have a lot more time on our hands nowadays, doesn’t it?

With most of the world in quarantine, people are spending a lot more time at home than usual. No work to go to, no school to attend, and nearly nowhere fun to go out. We’re all just stuck inside, hanging out with our families for the time being. That means more time for family time dinner stories, game nights and lots and lots of movies.

There feels like a nearly limitless supply of great movies to choose from galleries on Netflix, Prime, Disney+ and even you’re own DVD cabinet, but if there were ever a go-to selection of movies that you should watch during your quarantine (or any day after), these 15 are the best movies to choose!

1. The Incredibles

This action packed animated film is a movie the whole family will love!

The Incredibles is a super hero movie starring a family of five, each with their own special abilities. This family butts heads at times, but when it comes to having each other’s back to fend off villains and save the world, there’s no team that does it better!

When it comes to Disney/Pixar animations, this is one of the best movies to go to, so be sure to check out both The Incredibles and its long awaited sequel, The Incredibles 2!

2. Home Alone

Have you ever been home alone for Christmas?

This is exactly what happens to 8-year-old Kevin in the movie Home Alone, and to make matters worse, a pair of robbers just so happen to pick his house to invade during the holiday season.

This movie is full of pranks, traps, action and suspense that will have you and your family laughing off the edge of your couch!

3. The Game Plan

One of the best movies that stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, The Game Plan is another family oriented movie that should get some TV time in your house!

The Rock plays the role of a self-centered football star getting ready for the most important game of his career, when his biggest surprise — his unknown daughter — comes ringing his door bell. He’s forced to call an audible trying to learn how to balance his own stardom while learning how to raise a daughter on the fly.

The Game Plan is definitely an awesome sports movie that you and the family will enjoy!

4. The Wizard Of Oz

There really is no place like home, with your loving family.

In the case of Dorothy, home is the only place she wishes to be again. Lost and confused in a mythical, magical land far from her home in Kansas, she begins her journey home, and meets some very interesting characters that help her along the way.

The Wizard Of Oz is an old, all-time classic film and is one of the best movies for all families to watch!

5. Jumanji

Whether you go with today’s more comedic version or learn about the game’s origins in older classic (starring the late Robin Williams, by the way), you can’t go wrong with choosing Jumanji as a movie to sit down and watch with the family.

When a video game (or board game, depending on which film you choose) comes to life, each of its players are sucked into the world of the game. Literally. From inside the virtual realm, the players must work together in order to stay alive and win the game.

If you like games and suspense, Jumanji is the family film for you!

6. Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory

If there’s a movie that’s great for showing that your wildest dreams can come true, Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory might be one of the best movies of them all.

Charlie’s dream is to visit the all exclusive chocolate factory of Willy Wonka comes true after finding the final golden ticket earning him a trip for two to tour the factory. Charlie runs home to rejoice with his family and invites his bed ridden grandpa to join him on the once in a lifetime adventure.

Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory produces the greatest chocolate on the face of the earth, but there’s more than plenty of bizarre things that happen behind the scenes. Watch Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory and follow Charlie and the rest of the children’s tour experiences with the family!

7. Finding Nemo

What lengths would you go to when it comes to saving any one of your siblings? Your parents?

In Finding Nemo, Marlin is a clown fish that travels through the entire sea on a relentless mission to save his son, Nemo, who was captured by deep sea scuba divers. Marlin encounters many different sea creatures along the way, including a friendly fish named Dory, during his attempt to find and save his only son.

Sit back and watch Finding Nemo with the family and watch just how far one fish is willing to go to save the only family they know!

8. Moana

A more recent animated film that is a family favorite everywhere!

Moana is about a young girl, Moana of course, who is chosen by the ocean to to find Maui, a shape-shifting demigod, to help her on her quest to retrieve the heart of Te Fiti, the earth goddess worshiped by her island’s people, and save the island.

The two travel the seas on a handmade canoe in search of Maui’s magic hook and the heart of Te Fiti, and encounter many troubles along the way. As dangerous and suspenseful as the film sounds, it has more than enough jokes and fun songs to lighten the mood and make it fun for the whole family to enjoy!

9. Shrek

A movie starring a dragon slaying prince, a noble steed and a cursed princess. Just one of those typical fairy tail love stories, right?

Well, replace the prince with a terrifying swamp ogre and the noble steed with a loud mouthed donkey, and you got yourself quite an interesting tale to tell. Insert Shrek.

Another one of the best movies for families to enjoy together, Shrek is a movie that is all about showing the strength of true love and how strong friendships can spark between the most drastically different of beings!

10. Up

Carl is an old, grouchy man who just doesn’t seem to like anything about, well, anything (with reason, to be fair to him). When the city wants him to move out of his home for construction purposes, he refuses stubbornly, and even when a kind boy scout seeking his final badge for assisting the elderly comes knocking on his door, he refuses to give him his assist.

But when he accidentally injures a construction worker, he is forced to move out of his home, and sticking to his stubborn ways, he elects to use the rest of his stashed balloons from his old job, attach them to the roof of his house, and fly up, up and away! Little does he know, however, that the young boy scout, Russell, came back to try and change his mind, and ended up stuck on the front porch of his floating house!

You and your family can follow Carl and Russell through the skies by watching Up together!

11. Charlotte’s Web

Your family members are the ones who believe in you more than anybody. They’re the ones that are there to uplift you when you’re down, give everything they have to be there for you and make you feel like you’re one of a kind.

In the case of Wilbur, a pig on the Zuckerman family farm, there was none of his own family there to support him, and when it became known that the Zuckerman’s were plotting on slaughtering him for a Christmas dinner, it was the loving support of a barn spider named Charlotte that helped save Wilbur’s life by showing them that he truly is a special pig.

Sit down with the family and watch Charlotte’s Web to see just how special Wilbur really is!

12. Toy Story

Hey, toys have lives too, you know, and emotions, too.

One of the best movies ever made when it comes to animated film, Toy Story is the story of the lives of the toys (you probably could have guessed that, though) found in Andy’s room.

With the addition of a new action figure, Buzz Lightyear, on Andy’s birthday, the attention and affection swings ever so greatly into Buzz’s favor, which doesn’t sit well with the movie’s main character, a sheriff doll named Woody. Woody’s jealousy boils over, and his thirst for toy box supremacy pushes him to literally push Buzz out of an open window “accidentally” to the disgust of the fellow toys and the horror of Andy. Woody then takes it upon himself to go outside of the room and save Buzz to bring joy back to Andy and the toys in the room.

A story of a rivalry turned friendship, Toy Story is a great movie for you and the family to watch!

13. Honey, I Shrunk The Kids

You know that old saying “accidents happen?”

Well, what if one of your parents accidentally shrunk you to nearly microscopic size AND accidentally threw you out with the trash? In Honey, I Shrunk The Kids, this accidental scenario is lived out!

A group of kids from neighboring families are shrunk by Wayne, a scientist and father to two of the children, Amy and Nick, and shortly after thrown out with the trash. From the dumpster bin at the end of the curb, the kids must find a way to traverse their now boundless front yard, and must fend off now ginormous outside creatures on their way back to the house.

Can the kids make it back to the garage and get unshrunk by Wayne? Watch Honey, I Shrunk The Kids with the family and find out!

14. Harry Potter

Not very often does a series of some of the best novels ever written turn into a series of some of the best movies ever directed. Harry Potter is a special exception.

Harry Potter is a film about a boy by the name of, you guessed it, Harry Potter. Much like the best-selling novels, the movie series follows his years through wizard school at Hogwartz as he learns to hone his magic skills while going through all of the typical things middle and high school students go through themselves; making friends, dealing with bullying, being the star of the biggest sport in school, all that good stuff.

If you and your family have a lot of time on your hands (which you probably do during this quarantine) definitely give Harry Potter a watch!

15. Despicable Me

We started this list with a super hero movie. Fittingly, we end it with one centered around a super villain.

Despicable Me is about Gru, a deviant master villain, who gets outsmarted by a new villain on the block, Vector, who beats him to stealing the valuable shrink ray. Gru’s attempts to break into Vector’s base, but fail repeatedly until he notices how easily three orphan girl scouts are able to simply walk through force fields and traps to deliver cookies to the villain. Gru then plans to use the girls to his advantage in order to steal the shrink ray for his master plans.

Gru’s plans are clear, but in order to use the girls to help him, he brings them into his home, where they show him what having the love of a family is all about and even show him how to be a good guy.

Despicable Me is a good villain turned good guy but still kind of evil story that your family will adore from start to finish!

If you’re family is looking for a movie to watch together, these 15 are the best movies to choose from. Most of these movies share life lessons. Some of these movies will make you laugh, others might even make you cry, but through all the emotion, these movies will all be loved by everyone in the living room!
