The thought of living alone can seem scary when you don’t know about all of the benefits. Having roommates is great and all, but the benefits of living alone are pretty enticing. It may cost you a little extra money to go solo on a lease, but you won’t regret it in the least. Here are 15 benefits of living alone that no one tells you.
I think my favorite part of living alone would have to be the fact that you can wear whatever you want, or not wear anything at all. Walking around without pants is the best feeling and nobody can change my mind. You can wear whatever you want and not have to worry about facing any judgement. Having the freedom to do what you want is a definite plus when living alone.
I feel like when you have roommates there is always a worry in the back of your mind about your belongings being used or touched. Living alone gives you that peace of mind that you’re looking for. If you are very specific about your belongings and hate having to label groceries, living alone might be the move for you.
When you need to study or just want some time to yourself without any distractions, living alone is sure to give you exactly that. No more worrying about your roommate blasting music in their room or coming home super late from a night out. You also don’t ever have to worry about the volume of the tv or if your music is too loud. You have complete freedom.
You make the rules and don’t have to follow any rules other than your own. You never have to worry about upsetting your roommate because certain rules aren’t followed. It gives you control over the place you are living and peace of mind comes along with that.
You choose who comes over, when they come over, and for how long. You don’t have to ask for permission to have someone visit or worry about disturbing your roommate. It’s nice to be able to choose when you have guests and you don’t need to stress about when other people are over. Personally, I always worry about my roommate having guests over that I don’t personally know and avoiding that stress by living alone is easy.
Less people equals less mess. Living alone assures that you don’t have to worry about any mess that your roommate could make. You clean up after yourself and yourself alone. I don’t know about you, but having less dishes to wash sounds pretty appealing
For certain things, you could be spending less money. You don’t have to buy as much toilet paper, groceries, or shared items. You buy what you want and don’t need to stress about if you are paying your fair share of what you need for your apartment/dorm.
Sharing space will be a thing of the past when you live alone. You don’t need to share any space in the bathroom, kitchen, or common areas. You get to choose where you put your things and don’t have to divide any of the space between you and your roommate. This is appealing if you have ever lived with someone and they don’t respect your space or demand more space for their things.
Becoming more independent will come with living alone. You have to do all the work around your living space like shopping for groceries, cleaning, and decorating. It’s always good to try to become more independent especially if you haven’t had to be in the past. There is nothing wrong with having to rely on yourself and becoming independent because of your living situation.
This might be one of my favorite parts of living alone. You get to choose the decor and don’t have to consult with anyone about it. It’s nice to be able to show your style in the place you live and decorate how you like. Many disagreements can come from your roommate disliking your decorating style and it can put a damper on the place you live.
Waking up and having to wait to use the shower really puts a damper on your morning. When you live alone you have full rein of when you use the shower and every other area in your living space. I love the idea of being able to be anywhere in my apartment and not worrying if my roommate would be occupying that space instead.
No more worrying about your roommates allergies or dislike of cats. You can have any pet you can imagine and not have to worry about your roommate disapproving. The freedom of being able to choose what lives in your home is such a plus.
You only have to worry about you, yourself, and your pet. No more worrying about where your roommate is or if they’ll come stumbling through the door at 2 am. You also don’t have to think about bothering them or making them uncomfortable in any way. Living alone gives you so many benefits that it’s hard to think of reasons to even live with someone else.
No more being stressed about your roommate running up the water bill or energy bill. You choose how much utilities you use and you can really keep the cost down without expecting too much from your roommate.
Living alone will make you learn a lot about yourself. Because you’ll have a lot of time to yourself, you’ll learn new things that you didn’t know about your personality. It gives you the chance to explore the way you act and react by yourself.
