11 Campus Resources Every Rutgers Student Should Know

With Rutgers being such a huge and diverse campus, it’s easy to miss out on a lot of things they offer. There are plenty of campus resources catered toward everyone. Sometimes you can go a whole year – maybe even two – without knowing about a resource that Rutgers offers. You really have to be involved and do research to find out about some of these. Here are a couple of game changers to add to your Rutgers experience.

1. The Rutgers App

This is one app every Rutgers Student needs. From bus times to booking study rooms to dining menus to emergency services, this app will literally save your life.

2. The Learning Centers

Trying to pass Expos? They got you covered. Struggling in General Chem? They got you. Calc doesn’t make sense? They got you. Want to study somewhere it’s quiet and help is available? They got you. Basically if you’re struggling with anything, they will help you.

3. Quiet Spaces

Rutgers is usually pretty loud, but if you really need some time to yourself there are so many tiny corners where you can find peace. Need to meditate? Three out of four campuses have a meditation/prayer room. It’s usually one of the best places to sit in peace.

4. Finals Destressors

Finals week is the one week you don’t want to miss out on. We get free snacks and warm drinks offered to us at the libraries. We also get cute and cuddly animals to play with. Now who wouldn’t want to study on campus?

5. Microwaves

The biggest commuter struggle is eating cold food from home. But that’s no longer a problem, because all four campuses now have a microwave; and you can enjoy your food from home.

6. Involvement Fair

This one’s usually easy to miss because its a couple of days before school starts. Nevertheless, if you’re trying to find your niche, this is the place to be. This is where all the different clubs and organizations come together to showcase what they have to offer. There’s bound to be something that catches your eye or changes your life. You’ll most definitely find a club you didn’t know existed.

7. FREE Resume Checks

This is one resource you have to know and take advantage of before you graduate. Go to the Career Center and have them look over your resume. One day you’re going to be thankful you did that.

8. The Job Fair

Every semester, a bunch of companies come together to recruit students to work at their company. The catch is, you have to make sure you can cater to what they want out of you to get a position.

9. Mentorship/Leadership Programs

Many departments offer mentorship programs for students who need guidance, academically or even emotionally. There’s also programs where you can be a mentor. For example, The Collaborative offers an opportunity for students to mentor high school students and prepare them for college. It’s an opportunity to give back to the community.

10. The Gym

Okay, you knew about this one, but did you know about how it’s completely free to use on your own? They also offer free fun fitness classes in the beginning of the semester. Plus, working out is a great way to not gain that freshman 15.

11. Research

Rutgers is one of the top 30 in the nation with their research programs. Yes, they can be competitive, but there’s also a chance for everyone to do research in any field. You can also become a participant in a research trial and get a prize.
