10 Ways To Style The Classic Leather Jacket
Once I bought my first leather jacket, I was hooked. Though my first one was a beautiful lavender shade and very fashion-forward, I had to get the classic black leather jacket next and it has a permanent spot on my clothing rack. Though I picked up mine from New York & Company, many clothing stores from Walmart to Forever 21 to Coach Outlet carry leather jackets most of the time. The great thing about such a jacket is that it practically goes with everything and is something you can wear almost all year long. So! Here are 10 ways to style the classic black leather jacket!
1. Keepin’ It Professional
Who says you can’t wear a leather jacket to your 9-5 desk job? As long as you’re keeping it professional underneath, a leather jacket is a great way to express your badass side at the office. Try a leather blazer like in the picture below with some white slacks and a pair of cool boots! Add a belt to accentuate your waist.
2. All American Girl
What is more classic than jeans and a white tee-shirt? Jeans, a white tee-shirt, and a leather jacket of course. Simple and chic, it is fashion-forward while still being timeless, and it is a perfect combination for any casual gathering or event. Going to the grocery store? Check. Going shopping with girlfriends? Check. Going to the movies with your significant other? Check. Going to the mechanic? Check. Whatever errand, pit-stop, appointment, or meet-up, you are all set.
3. Winter Wear
With rose-colored glasses, winter fashion is a wonderland full of beautiful peacoats and puffy snow jackets. But, often enough, it can be above 30*F and you find yourself sweating in the full get-up. So, here is a just as wonderful alternative! A turtleneck sweater under your leather jacket will bring the perfect level of comfort. Either you can blend the look together with dark blues, reds, greens, and greys, or you can make a stark contrast with whites, creams, pastel pinks, and purples. Either way, there is nothing holding you back!
4. Summer Lovin’
To pull a total 180, let’s talk about when the weather is creeping its way to 80 degrees, or even 90 degrees, and what is needed for summer fashion. Yes, a lot of time is spent outdoors in summer, but a lot of your time is spent in air-conditioning as well. So, instead of shivering in the store or at dinner, have your handy leather jacket ready. With a combination of shorts and crop-top for outside, add your jacket for inside, and you get the best of both worlds.
5. Crop It
Speaking of crop tops, there are plenty of stores that have multiple black leather jacket options, some of which are cropped! Fashion-wise, this is a great idea for those who love high-waisted pants or want a little more freedom with their movement. Just as classic and stylish as the rest, if that is what you are vibing, just go with it!
6. Dress It Up
Now, this is one of my favorite options. I think there is just something so awesome about a clashing of the worlds when uber-feminine meets a harder edge. White, pink, purple, black, blue, green, who cares? Bohemian, preppy, goth, doesn’t matter. You do you and feel amazing every step of the way.
7. Add An Edge
There were quite a few image choices for this more abstract concept, where someone was wearing an evening gown or cocktail dress and added a black leather jacket to it. Which, honestly, is a really smart idea, because you can always carry your phone and money clip in the jacket pocket and do not even need a purse! Plus, it brings a nice fashion edge to break down the high-class aura of the overall look. You do not have to be Upper East Side to be fabulous.
8. Skirting The Line
Though I am most comfortable in pants, I know that everyone is different. And fashion is one of the few ways we can completely express ourselves. That is why I wanted to make sure to cover all the bases with this list, making sure to include skirts. From a night out with the girls to a meet-the-parents dinner, from a modern princess day at Disneyland to doing the Dark Arts at Universal, there are countless skirt and leather jacket combinations that fit the bill.
9. Black On Black On Black
My first introduction to a monochromatic look is when I started my heavy Goth phase in middle school. Recently, though, I have noticed this as a serious trend among all types of people, but especially fashion Instagrammers and YouTubers. So, since this is about the classic black leather jacket, that means black on black on black! (Which, still, can be different from Goth.)
10. As A Statement
Fashion is all about self-expression, right? Well, different pieces can provide different statements and it is time to let the classic black leather jacket shine! As we have seen throughout this article, there are so many unique designs and so many ways to wear it. This way, you are making an effort to show off the jacket rather than incorporate it into your capsule wardrobe.
Fashion does not have to be complicated, and in fact, can be a ton of fun! Adding a classic leather jacket is always the way to go to make an outfit more interesting. Comment below with any other ways to wear a leather jacket we missed!
