Does trying to fit your makeup routine into your morning cause you stress and panic? Are you craving a few more extra minutes of sleep? Here are some tips to solve this once and for all!
If you are anything like me, you are a makeup collector. You have tons of eyeshadow palettes and bronzers you don’t really need. Narrow it done to your select few products you know you will reach for everyday and put them in a separate makeup bag. This way you will not spend half your time sorting through your makeup contemplating what you want to use. It also keeps your makeup more organized when you want to travel or go to a friend’s house to get ready.
Having skin that is already hydrated and fewer blemishes will save you time in the makeup process. I like to give my skin time to breathe between days I wear foundation, because it helps replenish the skin’s natural moisture level and decrease clogged pores. Try face masks before going to bed at night, and when you wake up make sure to cleanse and moisturize the face. Prioritizing skin care will have your skin looking healthy and glowing in no time. You will then not need as much foundation or concealer on your skin, or any at all.
Using more neutral tones in your makeup routine will save you time and be easier to accomplish. Trying to complete an eye look with bright blue and orange is going to take a lot longer than sweeping brown across the crease. Although I appreciate a fun makeup look, when I have 5 minutes before running out the door it is not the time. Blush and bronzer that is closer to your skin tone will be easier to blend out and faster to put on. If you are applying eyeliner, a neutral pencil shade will likely be the fastest way to get the look you want.
When I first started makeup, using a product other than its intended use sounded strange to me. Now I realize how much time it saves me and pulls the look together. Use your bronzer as a crease color or your highlighter as a lid color. Use your eyeliner as a lipliner or your eyebrow pencil as an eyeliner. There are so many ways to mix and match items that will save your wallet and space in your travel bag.
Don’t waste your time grabbing different brushes for every single step of your makeup routine, it is not necessary. You can use things such as a powder brush for multiple areas on your face, the same thing with a beauty blender. For base products, such as cream blush or foundation, you can use your fingers if you want to narrow down the time even more. Not having to grab multiple brushes will keep you focused and on time.
There are also things you can do that will decrease your routine without having to grab any makeup product. Eyelash extensions are a great alternative if you want to spend the money, that way there is no need for mascara or lashes. You also will have that extra boost of confidence waking up in the morning. If you are someone who spends a lot of time filling in their eyebrows, getting an eyebrow tint may be for you. It will last for weeks and you will not have to worry about running late because your eyebrows are uneven.
Trying to lip line and go in with a darker lip will take you much longer than chapstick or lip gloss. Although a bold lip is a fun and beautiful choice, it is not needed when you’re short on time. It is also something that is easy to touch up in the car or before class and you don’t have to worry about it fading throughout the day. It also goes with every kind of look, so if you decide to switch up your eye look for the day you don’t have to worry about it not matching anymore.
This is one of my favorite things to do when I’m in a hurry or don’t feel like wearing a lot of makeup that day. You can apply concealer on your acne or dark circles and leave it like that, so you still have the coverage you want without spending time on your entire base makeup. It saves your product because you will be using a lot less makeup. You will also be saving money because your makeup will not run out as fast.
If you were around in the 2016 makeup era, you are probably used to the sharp contour and extreme highlight, but when you have a few minutes in the morning it is a lot easier to ditch it. Sweeping some bronzer and highlight on the skin is a lot easier than piling on the contour and strobing sticks. The ultra defined look is a lot better for when you have more time in your routine. Knowing what areas to contour that best suit your face shape will also save you time from trying to wipe it off and on throughout your routine.
Finding out what types of products work best for you will cut down your routine time dramatically. If you find cream products are easier for you to apply, you can focus your routine more around that and the same thing for powder products. It depends on your personal preference, and you may need to experiment with different brands as well.
