Going out is all fun and games until you leave the club with makeup dripping off your face or, when you have foundation marks left all over your mast. (2020 issues, am I right?). Both of these experiences drive me crazy, personally, so I set out to find the best ways to pull off a “no-makeup” makeup look. Plus, the natural look is so hot right now. Below I’ve shared 10 tips for how to maximize your natural beauty while also getting a little dolled up. You’re going to look amazing, babe!
I’m convinced your eyelashes talk to a person before you’ve even met. Have you ever walked up to someone only to be starstruck by their lashes? If you say no, you’re probably the one with the lashes. No matter how much makeup you put in your day to day routine, I think we can all agree mascara is a big focus point. That is why I suggest you invest in a good one that gives you that doe-eyed look. This is also the easiest way to achieve the “No Makeup” Makeup look because all someone needs is to see your beautiful long lashes and they will be stunned by how good your makeup looks for the day.
Most Importantly, your eyes are usually one of the main features people look to when they see you, so if you grab their attention with those long lashes, nobody will notice the pimple you’re so self-conscious about.
I am a die hard lip gloss fan. In fact, I’d die hard for almost any lip products. There is something so sexy about good looking lips. Have you ever walked out of the house with nothing but a little lip balm on and caught yourself checking out your smile in the mirror? That extra moisture peeking through caught your own attention so you can only imagine how the rest of the world will feel.
Lips are important because not only do you talk, and smile from them, but you kiss with your lips which makes them an automatic attention grabber. If you take good care of your lips by using a lip balm or chapstick daily, a lip mask at night, and a little lip gloss before you leave the house, your “No Makeup” Makeup look will be one to beat.
My newfound favorite effortless makeup tip is to throw a little bit of your blush on your nose as well. I used to cover my nose with a thick line of highlighter only to use a dark brown bronzer (that I’d inevitably forget to blend in), to contour and make my nose look cute and small. Once I was introduced to this tip though, it was game over. Now when I go to put on my blush every morning I just tap a tiny bit over the bridge of my nose. Sometimes I use a powder and other times I use a cream blush but both work just the same.
The Glowy Look has been a huge trend since basically forever, but it can be hard to manage without looking greasy. Sometimes when I’d get ready for the day with just mascara and some highlights, I’d end the day looking like a broken out disco ball. Something about the highlighter on my bare face was too overbearing and looked like I didn’t have a clue about makeup. (I didn’t).
Over the past few years, I have become obsessed with skincare and the “No makeup” makeup style, so I’d sit home and watch endless amounts of Youtube videos on how to perfect your look with just one product. One tip I found on my endless Youtube binge was to mix moisturizer with some highlighter and put that all over your skin delicately. Let me tell you, this tip is a life changer. You will notice yourself glowing everywhere you go.
This shouldn’t come as a surprise, the better you take care of your skin the easier it will be to pull off a “No Makeup” makeup look and that’s because when your skin looks good, you don’t want to cover it up! Unfortunately, we can’t really pick and choose when we feel like breaking out or not so sometimes our skin just isn’t on our side.
Personally, I’m not only too disorganized to keep up with the same skincare routine everyday, but I also just don’t have perfect skin. My hormones play a HUGE part in how clear it looks and when. Since my acne, like most of yours, has its ups and downs, I try to focus on doing what I can. No matter how bad my skin looks, I focus on keeping it as clean and hydrated as possible. The better care you take of your skin when it’s not behaving, the better it’ll feel and look.
I’m sure you just read that this suggestion is about red lipstick and went “How does red lipstick fit in a “No Makeup” makeup look?”. Well, lipstick of all colors, but in our case will use red, is VERY versatile. If you manage to find an incredible red lipstick that works with your complexion and the season, you can make yourself over anywhere. All you need to do is tap some lipstick on your cheeks, nose, eyelids, and lips to give a light flushed color that looks completely natural and graceful. Just remember to start with a little bit and blend it in well. You can always add more later!
Sometimes on a day when you want to get the “No Makeup” look, wearing eyeliner is too harsh and looks like you tried harder than you’d like. On days like this, I like to switch out my eyeliner pencil for a skinny slanted makeup brush, and some black eyeshadow. If you can master a wing with a pencil, I promise you the brush will be nothing. The dull powder-y look to the eyeshadow gives your look a very effortless and casual vibe while totally making your eyes pop.
I would be lying to you if I didn’t suggest Eyelash Extensions in this article. Listen to me carefully, eyelash extensions are the most incredible beauty investment you can make nowadays, in my opinion. I spent the last three years of my life getting extensions and can’t imagine my face without them. I never loved doing my makeup but living in a big city where everyone looks like an off duty model, I felt pressure to keep a quick makeup look as the bare minimum for what I wore out in public.
Now, I could go out with a face full of acne and no makeup, and I will still steal attention on the streets. I will warn you though, not only can eyelash extensions be an addictive habit to start, but they can also be pricey so I suggest looking around for different eyelash technicians and find one that fits in your budget while also being professionally trained.
Self Tanner is debatably one of the most controversial beauty products around because not only are people hesitant to put it on their body, most people steer clear of their face. I personally think this is wrong. Self Tanner will not look bad if you do your research on the brand before hand, clean yourself properly, and put in the time and effort to make it even. Trust me, I’ve had my share of mishaps with self tanner but once I learned that just like with all makeup, self tanner just needs to be used properly, I fell in love. Nothing will elevate your “No Makeup” Makeup look like a fresh tan. For a lighter more subtle tan, I always suggest mixing your tanner with some moisturizer before applying.
Don’t worry, this last tip isn’t only for my naturally freckled beauties. A huge trend right now is artificial freckles that girls are putting on using eyeshadow, eyeliner, or even henna. I have yet to personally try this trend but honestly, I’m all for it. It can be hard to capture the effortless, youthful look in the winter without the suns help.
