10 Stages Of Registering For Classes At Ohio State

As it’s scheduling season, I remember all of the mental struggles I actually go through during the process (because I try my hardest to have the perfect schedule). Here are the 10 steps to registering for classes at Ohio State.

1. Looking up your major’s sequence.

Usually, students use their major’s sequence as a guide to scheduling classes at Ohio State. But some might be too confused; in this case, it would be time to turn to an advisor for help!

2. Logging into Buckeye Link and opening a schedule planner.

It’s time to look up that perfect schedule (the one with enough breaks to make your life a little bit better, no matter what hard classes you’re trying to pass).

3. Finding the perfect schedule.

You know it’s the one when the latest class you have to take is at 10 a.m., and it doesn’t conflict with your evenings of relaxation (or work/study time).

4. Preparing for the day your window opens.

This is an important day, because many try to schedule as soon as this window opens and, of course, it doesn’t always work out.

5. Realizing your perfect schedule can’t happen anymore because a class has been filled up.

So one of your class sections has been filled up from students who scheduled ahead of you. It’s time to find another section that, sadly, conflicts with another one of your classes; so you try to create a new schedule from scratch as soon as possible, before that class section gets filled up too.

6. Finding a second not-so-perfect (but still okay) schedule.

You have to take 8 a.m. classes, so let’s focus on the positives; now you get out even earlier and you only have 8 a.m. classes twice a week.

7. Seeing that some professors are already chosen and looking at them through Rate My Professors.

When you realize some classes already have their professors listed, you will want to make sure to get a professor who isn’t going to give you too much of a hard time, right?

8. Not finding them on Rate My Professors and panicking.

The good news is, they could just be new professors, or people just seriously forgot about adding them. Sadly, you won’t know if you are going to learn about the topics in the class, or if you’re going to learn how to just pass.

9. If able to, changing some of your classes to have well-reviewed professors as well as a manageable schedule.

For the ones you do find, you get to do some changes depending on their ratings. And, at some point, some classes might open up and you might be able to work with your schedule once again (hoping to get rid of that 8 a.m.)!

10. Treating yourself to a snack (or a drink for those who are into that) to reward yourself.

Scheduling classes at Ohio State is actually hard work!
