10 Signs You’re a Psychology Major

Before I started college, I had heard about college students who had changed their major several times before settling on one that was right for them. I vowed that would never be me and that I would stick with being a Biology major during my whole college career. Until I took a General Psychology course. That was when I realized that psychology could actually be a potential major for me. I really enjoyed the lectures on the different parts of the brain and also the various psychologists. I may not have changed my major six times, but I found a major that I am absolutely in love with. Here are 10 signs that you are a psychology major and love it just as much as I do!

1. People automatically assume that you are analyzing them.

No… Sorry I’m not. Just because I have a major in psychology doesn’t mean I’m always analyzing you, although I am analyzing something.

2. Friends always come to you when they need advice.

Some people think that being friends with someone who is a psychology major also means that you have a therapist. Honestly, I don’t mind it when friends come to me with their problems. I’m a great listener and try to give the best advice, so I guess it works in my favor.

3. You can cite things in APA, in your sleep.

I’m literally a walking APA manual. With a major in psychology you might go crazy with looking at APA formatting, but if that kind of thing excites you, then you made the right choice of major!

4. You have read a crap ton of journal articles.

If I had a dollar for every time that I read an article for class, I would be able to afford all the beauty products in Sephora!

5. You are easily amused with psychology-related jokes.

“Do you know any good Psychology jokes? I’m a-Freud not.” Gets me every time!

6. You read books like “Confessions of a Sociopath.”

It’s so awkward sitting in the library or coffee shop and pulling out the book “Confessions of A Sociopath” or “Why Kids Kill.” Guaranteed weird looks.

7. People always ask what you plan to do with your major.

The most popular question that I get when I tell people my major is, “What do you plan to do with your major?” Psychology is one of those majors where you have to attend graduate school to pursue a career as a child psychologist. I consider myself to be an oddball because I plan on pursuing a career in medicine.

8. It annoys you when people carelessly say things like “I’m so ADD.”

There are people out there who have actually been diagnosed with a mental disorder and struggle on a daily basis with it. Making a joke about a serious issue and is never ok.

9. You have developed a love for taking surveys.

You have learned that getting people to take your survey is one of the hardest tasks that you will ever endure, but you absolutely love making them!
