So, you’ve been seeing the same person for a while. You love spending time with them and you may have even had a conversation where you define your relationship. However, sometimes it can be difficult to determine whether your relationship is something short-term or something more. Luckily, there are little things that you can look for to give you an idea of the status of your relationship.
Here are ten signs that your relationship is getting serious!
Meeting your significant other’s family is one of the most classic signs that your relationship is getting serious. Family is very important to a lot of people, and meeting family can be a make or break step in a relationship. If you’re starting to meet members of your significant other’s family, it may be a sign that they want to keep you around long term.
At the same time, it’s a chance for you to see if you’re a good fit for your significant other’s family. No matter how you look at it, meeting family is a sign that your relationship is a serious one.
The ability to be vulnerable with someone is a sign that you’re comfortable with them. If you’re in a relationship, you should feel comfortable opening up to your partner as your relationship grows and develops.
As your relationship gets more serious, you’ll find yourself learning more and more about your partner, things that go deeper than the small-talk surface-level conversations you have on the first few dates. Things from their past, their life goals, things they worry about: these are all things you may have discussions about as your relationship gets more serious.
Maybe this is something unique to me, but I’m of the opinion that even boring things like trips to the grocery store can be a lot of fun if you’re with a person you care about. Your relationship may be getting more serious if you find yourself doing everyday things, like running errands, with your significant other– and having fun while doing it!
It’s a sign that you’re on the way out of the honeymoon phase. This isn’t a bad thing. In fact, I see it as a good thing. It’s a sign that you can enjoy spending time with your partner in everyday life, not just when you’re going out on dates.
Similarly to meeting your partner’s family, meeting your partner’s friends is a sign that your relationship is getting serious. In a way, meeting the friends can be just as important as meeting the family. If you’re starting to meet your significant other’s friends, it’s a sign that they see the relationship lasting a while.
In this era, your password to your Spotify account or your Netflix account is valuable information. If your significant other gives you the password and lets you share the account with them, that’s a pretty big deal. It’s a sign that they trust you enough to give you important information. Plus, there’s just something really sweet about sharing a Spotify account with your significant other.
As much as it may hurt to admit, you and your significant other are going to disagree and butt heads from time to time. It’s inevitable. What’s important is that you two are able to resolve conflicts without resorting to doing things to make the other person feel bad, like name-calling or intentionally dragging up past issues.
When you figure out a way to resolve conflicts together, it’s a sign that your relationship is serious and built to last.
It’s always a nice feeling when you find someone who you can spend time with without always having to be on the move all the time. You can simply exist in the same space and enjoy each other’s company.
Reaching this stage is a sign that your relationship is getting more serious. Early on, long silences or periods of time doing nothing may feel awkward. When this awkwardness starts to go away, it’s a good sign that you two are comfortable with each other.
At the beginning of a relationship, it’s not uncommon to want to spend every waking moment with them. But this feeling won’t last forever. As your relationship develops and gets more serious, you’ll start to realize that you don’t need to spend every minute with your partner in order for your relationship to be successful.
This distinction is what separates something casual from something serious and long-term.
While moving in together is a major signal of a serious relationship, there are some smaller precursors along the way that can hint at the fact that your relationship is getting serious. In most cases, this may look like leaving some small essentials, like a toothbrush or some makeup, at your partner’s house even if you’re not living there full time.
When you and your significant other start using “we” in conversations about the future, it’s a sign that your relationship is getting serious. It’s a sign that your partner sees you as a part of their future.
These conversations aren’t always formal, either. Even a casual mention of a future together can be a sign that your relationship is a serious one because it shows, deep down, that your partner thinks you’re going to be in their life for a long time. Additionally, the future can be a taboo topic at times, especially if the relationship is only casual. Carefree conversations about the future are indicators that your relationship is something more than casual.
