10 Reasons to Join a Sorority
When people think of sororities they tend to think about parties, sisterhood, and all the other things they have seen on movies and TV shows. However, there are many more reasons to join a sorority and many of them you might not have even thought of.
1. Connections
The girls in your sorority are not just girls that you talk to and hangout with for four years. They are connections that you will have for a lifetime. Reach out to older girls from your chapter; often times they may be able to help you find a job after graduation! Many chapters, including mine, have a LinkedIn account so that all members can connect and discover alumni that are in the same field as them in the hopes of helping them get a job.
2. Unlimited Closets
You’re just about ready to head out the door for a night out, but your outfit is missing just one thing. The perfect shoes? Accessories to pull it all together? No need to worry! When you have 100 plus sorority sisters, you are guaranteed to find that perfect piece to complete your outfit. There is almost no need to go out and buy clothing anymore because you have unlimited amount of options by just texting your sisters.
3. Study Buddies
It is scientifically proven that studying in groups helps you do better on tests. Being in a sorority means you are more likely to have a sister in one, or even all of your classes. Now you don’t have to worry about awkwardly seeking out a study buddy, or picking a partner – sisters to the rescue! Even if you have the same teacher but just at different times you can still work together to study and go over material, and you can even complain about the teacher while you’re at it.
4. Future Roomies
One of the things that I stressed over was trying to find people to live with while at school. Everyone has that fear of not having a predetermined roommate and having to go the random selection route – I’m sure you’ve heard the horror stories. When you are in a sorority, however, you have so many sisters that your chances of finding a great roomie will never be an issue.

5. You Have A HUGE Support System
It does not matter if it’s a family issue, you flunked a test, or that guy in your science class finally talked to you and you sounded like a blubbering idiot. Your sisters have your back no matter what the situation. They will laugh with you, cry with you, or just eat ice cream and watch Sixteen Candles with you because they know that the movie makes you feel better no matter what is going on in your life.
6. Adventure Buddies
You know how when you are working (or procrastinating) on that paper and you suddenly have a strong urge for fries? But then you realize going to McDonald’s at 2 AM alone is like wearing a sign that says “yes hi, I have no friends.” Well, now you never have to worry about that. I guarantee that there will be at least one, if not more then five other sisters who will gladly drive to McDonald’s with you and sing Justin Timberlake with you at the top of their lungs.
7. Lifelong Friends
Once you are a member of a sorority, you are always a member of that sorority and you will always have those lifelong friends. Of course, you will probably lose touch with some of them…that’s just how life works. But even so, in ten years from now, call up any one of those girls and I would put money on it that they would be there for you in a heart beat! Most sorority girls stay in close contact with at least four of their sisters throughout their entire life. That’s four builtin bridesmaids; so now you don’t have to worry about asking your mom’s cousin’s daughter who you only see at family reunions.

8. Netflix Binge Watching Buddies
We all know that watching Netflix in your pajamas is fun, but it can be lonely at times. When you have your sorority sisters I can promise you that probably half of your sisters are obsessed with the same show as you. So grab your favorite pajama pants, some snacks and go ahead and indulge in 12 episodes, without any guilt, because you have your sisters to watch it with you.

9. Travel Companions
Everyone loves to travel, but traveling alone can be one of the scariest things. In college everyone dreams of studying abroad and having the Lizzie McGuire experience of being mistaken for an international pop star. While the chances of that actually happening are pretty slim, you can still have a traveling adventure with your sorority sisters!

10. Endless Memories
Being in a sorority can mean a million different things to a million different people. However, one of the things that I am sure every girl in a sorority can agree on is that being in a sorority will create a collection of endless memories. There is nothing better than looking back and knowing that you are who you are because of the girls you wore your letters with. It is a part of your life you will NEVER forget!
