I consider makeup to be an art form. There are some fantastic designs and looks created with various types of makeup. Whether you are looking to impress or want to shock those around you, I pulled together ten looks that are pretty and creative! No matter the season, the event, or the occasion, there are looks that you can try to recreate using makeup you already own or by picking up a few minor additions.
There are lots of rainbow eyeshadow looks out there, and let’s face it, you can pretty much do anything you want when it comes to depicting all the colors on the prismatic spectrum, but this look ties up all the colors on your lid and then incorporates the violet color in a way that will make your eyes pop. The addition of white on the lid adds flare and the glitter in the corner of the eyes adds sparkle and personality. The glitter in the inner corner of the eyes helps tie in the highlights on the end of the nose and cheekbones. Of course, adding a set of gorgeous lashes ups the drama factor. Keeping a light lip is important to not take away from the intense but beautiful eye colors. To achieve this look, try the BH Cosmetics palette Trendy In Tokyo. If you are looking for a bit of sparkle in your colors, you can also try BH Cosmetics Take me Back to Brazil: Rio Edition palette.
This look uses a dark blue on the top lid as a liner and a light blue on the lower lashline. The thickness of the liners adds drama and color without looking clownish. The dark blue winged eyeliner sits on top of a nude or neutral eyeshadow and is accompanied by dark blue lashes. This can be achieved with blue mascara if you prefer no lashes. A simple pink or clear gloss is perfect for the lips to draw attention to the eyes. Some products you can use to achieve this look are L’Oreal Paris Voluminous Mascara available at Target.com, Winxy Lux liquid eyeliner at Target.com, and L’Oréal Paris Infallible Paints Eyeliner at Amazon.com. Apply any of your favorite glosses to complete this look!
Purple is a popular color recently; many celebrities have been spotted sporting purple shadow. Purple is a great color to wear if you have brown eyes; it makes it pop. This look is all purple and lavender hues and is an easy look to recreate. Purple liquid eyeliner is used to create a lovely and thick winged liner on the lid, and it is over a lavender purple and a lighter purple or white in the center. You can apply a purple pencil on the bottom lash line and top it with mascara to finish the look off. Try the Cashmere Forever palette by Colourpop is a great selection of purples to choose from. I highly recommend Coloupop as a makeup brand; their colors are vibrant, cruelty-free, and they run many sales on their website. You get more bang for your buck!
Gold, rose gold, and other metallic tones are pretty common for makeup these days. However, the golds are neutral metallic shades that are gorgeous and easy to pair with other colors. You can build up the color and make it smokey if preferred. The look I chose is a shimmery gold theme that becomes darker as you get to the outer corner of the eyes. What is beautiful about this look is that you can add hints of other colors on the bottom lash line or inner corner of the eye. On this image, if you look closely, you can see a hint of purple. The lips are a neutral color so that the emphasis is on the dramatic eyes. Add some lashes to complete the look. To achieve this look, try the Good as Gold Colourpop palette.
For this look, you choose a color you want to focus on for each eye. You will see the light blue-green pastel that slowly bleeds into a pastel green color in this image. The colors are drawn out past the lid and blended. The other eye is a coral orange color that blends into a golden yellow and once again is drawn out past the lid and lays just above the cheeks. You can add mascara and white liner on the lower lash line while applying liquid black liner along the upper lashline. To achieve these two different pastel color looks, try the Colourpop Cloud Dye Vault Palettes. Be sure to keep your lips a nude color so that the focus can be on your eyes.
This look is easy to achieve but looks pretty and dramatic. You should have a neutral lid color and use a coat or two of mascara. As for the extreme wing, you should use a liquid liner pen to have a steady hand. This line starts at the end of your brow and then inward to your inner eye with a light stroke. The outside should be heavy, while the inside should be a thin line. Then use short flicks to create a feathered look on the wing. To achieve this adorable wing, try NYX Epic Ink Vegan Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner. Be sure to find a waterproof liner so that your wing stays in place all day and night!
This look requires a steady hand. You can easily create the shape, but you definitely want to blend this well. You can use regular eyeshadow for this look, but you may want to consider liquid liners or gel liner pots like the Like Dynamite Vault from Colourpop. Colourpop has many colors in gel pots to check out, and you certainly are not limited to a small selection. What is great about these is that you can lay down the liner and apply the shadows on top of it. Then use powdered glitter and a white liquid liner to create the stars. You may want to add some highlighter on your cheeks and nose to complete the ethereal or galactical look. You can also apply this to just one eye and have the other eye blend the blue into the gold to compliment the starry theme.
Smokey eyes are a common look. Often you will see a dark brown shade and even some golden hues into the mix. This look is a bit different with a charcoal grey smoked-out look. This eye uses the dark grey shade with a metallic or silver glittery applied to the entire lid and the bottom lashline. Black eyeliner is applied and a few coats of mascara. The dark grey bleeds and blends into a darker brown near the browbone. I believe false lashes would add drama to this look and be an amazing addition. Add some glitter and shimmer to the inner corner of your eyes and your browbone to complete this look. As always, if you intend to go dark or dramatic with the eyes, be sure to keep the lips simple. Try Lancôme Hypnôse in Smokey Chic to achieve this look!
This look follows a traditional pin-up makeup look. A winged liner, red lips, and mascara. However, this look uses nude shades and a slight smoke to add depth and drama. It is a beautiful look that anyone can wear. Apply a brown shade to the crease of your eyes and blend it up and out towards your browbone. Apply a lighter color or highlight on the brow bone and the inner corner of your eye. Use a black liquid liner to wing out your liner. Do not apply the liner to your lash line. Instead, use your mascara on your bottom lashes and add a white liner to your waterline. Add falsies for extra drama, and be sure to use vibrant red lipstick. There are so many lovely red colors on the market, and you have a choice between a matte or a creamy texture. Add a bit of bronzer to your cheeks and highlight to your nose and cheeks as well. Try Juvias Palace in The Perfect Red for a beautiful red lip.
Adding a pop of color is a great way to add color without going overboard, or if you are a person that tends to shy away from colors, this is for you! You can add a pop of color as a top eyeliner or to your lower lashline. What is great is that you can use any color you want. Often you will see neutrals on the entire lid accompanied with a coat or two of mascara and a sky blue on the lower lash line or waterline. This image is a reverse color pop with blue applied as an eyeliner on the top lid. It is a beautiful look that is easy to achieve and can be worn nearly anywhere because you can choose how dramatic or subtle the look comes off. You can try Diamonds & Ice, Please Epic Wear Liner Set by NYX to achieve this look. Their colors are vibrant, and the pencils are creamy and easy to apply. These colors add the perfect pop of color!
