10 of the Best MTV Shows

For nearly 20 years, MTV has been the home for both funny and thrill-seeking shows that appeal towards teen and young adult life. Here are 10 of the best MTV shows to have ever aired on television.

1. Jackass

When you hear that country guitar noise and see a skeleton cross bone, you already know that what you are about to witness is pure insanity. “Jackass” follows the stupid, crazy, and funny adventures of comedic personality Jonny Knoxville, professional skateboarder Bam Margera and Kevin Dunn doing out-of-this-world activities that you would never even think of doing without possibly getting yourself killed. From riding a shopping cart off a roof to jousting on minibikes, this is what it means to live your life as a pure Jackass.

2. Jersey Shore

We all wanted to live the dream of staying in a nice beach house on the edge of the Jersey Shore. But when you are living in that house with 8 other people, you are in for a world of chaos and drama. The idea of Jersey Shore is having a bunch of guys and girls all live together in the same house. This right here is the perfect recipe to stir the pot to create those dramatic arguments funny moments that viewers at home love seeing. Who knew a reality show like this could keep so many people interested in regular people’s lives.

3. MTV Cribs

Now, this show right here is what I like to call an MTV classic. Since the early 2000s, this show has been all about documenting the lives of celebrities and how they lie in their huge upscale mansions. Now sure as kids, we all wanted to live our lives having all of this wealth fame, and power, but what most of these celebrities are not telling us is that it took more than just hard work to get to where they are. From Lil Wayne, Pamela Anderson, and Mariah Carey, these celebrities love showing off what the good life looks like in their eyes.

4. Wild N Out

If you are a fan of the Hip-Hop community but still love a bit of comedy and edge mixed, MTV’s “Wild N Out” is the show to catch it all. Hosted by television personality Nick Cannon, this show is all about showing off your freestyle talent of rapping through crazy games you never would think of. Plus, this show has had some of the best celebrity guest appearances from Coi Leray, Da Baby, and Lil Durk. So, if you think you got what it takes to show off your skills in the rap game, put them to the test on Wild N Out!

5. Teen Mom

A lot of people may think of being a Teen Mom as irresponsible and someone who doesn’t think long-term down the road. But really, who are we to judge someone on their life when it is none of our business! The show “Teen Mom” talks about more than just the day-to-day life of raising a child as a teenager. The parents on this show talk about all the dramatic issues they have had to endure while trying to raise a child at such a young age. From being divorced, living poor, having to drop out of school even losing precious loved ones. At first, this show might come across as being dramatic, but in reality, it speaks on real issues that young teens struggle with. Being a Teen Mom takes more than just looking pretty on camera, it takes dedication and sacrifice to do what is right for your child.

6. Awkward

If you have ever had those strange moments in high school where everything is so confusing, “Awkward” pretty much explains it all. This show is pretty much the rundown of what most teenagers experience when they are living high school life. From trying to figure out difficult relationship issues, making new friends without making enemy’s, listed as the most popular person in school and captain of the football team, this life can pretty much be seen as both weird and awkward.

7. Catfish

One of the biggest issues that most teenagers and young adults suffer over the years is figuring out if this person with who I’m having an online relationship is real. MTV’s “Catfish” exposes it all figuring out who’s really behind that computer screen. This show is all about Nev and Max helping young adults fulfill their dream of finally meeting face-to-face with their online romance who they have been talking with for months. Sometimes it will work out where he or she finally gets to meet their long last romance, whereas other times it doesn’t always work out only to find out that he or she was being lied to.

8. Viva La Bam

After making his television debut on Jackass, Bam Margera felt it was necessary to take his crazy television personality acting a step further. In 2003, Bam Margera launched his reality television show “Viva La Bam”. This show shows Bam bringing all the antics that he did in Jackass to his home. From skateboarding off the roof into a pool, filling the living room full of snakes to blowing loud sirens in his parent’s room, the Margera family household will never be the same again after this show.

9. Rob and Big

Bam Margera is not the only pro skateboarder to have his reality show. Other than being a pro skateboarder, Rob Dyrdek has also lived a crazy ridiculous life with his best friend Christopher “Big Black” Boykin. Together, these two became the definition of the dynamic duo in the show “Rob and Big”. This show had such high ratings, it was originally scheduled to get renewed for another season, but unfortunately, the main star of the show himself passed away, Christopher “Big Black” Boykin. Christopher “Big Black” Boykin may have left this world, but Rob Dyrek will always remember him by reflecting on all their crazy and brotherly loved adventures.

10. MTV Raps

I know most young kids who love staying up to date with their favorite music love using social media since it is the greatest tool for networking. But before the age of social media, the most common way to know what was hot in the music industry was “MTV Raps”. This was the show that allowed whoever was making their come up in the music industry to let their voice heard on television.

MTV is that one television company that has dedicated its entire network to entertaining millions of fans all around the world through programs of action, drama, romance, and comedy. What is your favorite MTV show? Let me know in the comments below.
