10 of the best Michael Jackson Songs

Michael Jackson is without a doubt the most talented individual of his time. Even though he suffered from a serious skin condition that left people questioning his race, Michal always stayed a firm believer of it means for him to be a black man. Here are 10 of the most iconic Michael Jackson songs that are considered historic treasures.

1. You Rock my World

If there is one thing that Michael Jackson is considered the man for, it is having that magic touch to woo almost any woman. His track “You Rock my World”, being one of his most recent hits starting in the early 2000s skyrocketed at the top of the music charts in little time. The idea of his song shows that even though Michael was getting older at the time, there is always that one woman who has just enough beauty to rock a man’s world.

2. Beat It

When it came to living in that edgy grunge-pop era, the 80s was all about that life. 1983 was the year when Michael Jackson made the song “Beat It” where this track embodies the elements of hip-hop dance routines and rock. As you can see from the music video, if there is a physical discrepancy going on, it would be best if you and your group would just “Beat It”, before a problem starts.

3. Remember the time

Even though Michael Jackson for years had struggled dealing with the negativity from both the media and society judging him about his skin condition, Michael Jackson always stood by his believes of being 100 percent black. His song “Remember the Time” was more of a statement towards his ethnicity where in this music video, you can see that the theme is Egyptian signifying that life began in Africa and that Michael Jackson’s roots come directly from Africa. Even though Michael Jackson is considered the biggest star in the world, he never forgot what it means to be black.

4. Bad

Do not let Michael Jackson’s radiant smile fool you, just like all good guys there is a little bad charm inside them. Michael’s song “Bad” is based on the artist Prince who was also very popular at the time where Prince looks very similar to being androgynous. Where Michael Jackson is seen wearing this black leather chain looking giving everyone the impression that he is “Bad”.

5. They Don’t Care About Us

Michael Jackson was a serious activist when it came to issues regarding poverty and racism. In 1996, Michael Jackson traveled to Brazil where he made his song “They don’t Care About Us”. The purpose of this song was to make a political statement about how the United States government does not want to give certain countries like Brazil more funds to live better lives. Instead, the United States would rather let the country remain poor and struggle. Sometimes, the best way to get your message out there is to put it in a musical style that everyone will support.

6. The Way You Make Me Feel

There is nothing more classic than just walking up to a woman and showing her that you have a serious game. Michael Jackson’s song “The Way You Make Me Feel” is where Michael is just trying to how a girl or his girlfriend makes him feel. Some of his other lyrics are “You really turn me on, you knock me off of my feet” so obviously he has good feelings for her. If you’re trying to make that special girl notice you but you end up getting cold feet, just let her know that she knocks you off your feet.

7. Scream

As successful as Michael Jackson was in his career, let’s not forget who helped him climb the mountain top of success. His sister Janet Jackson had just as much musical talent and performance as her brother Michael. In 1995, both Michael and Janet Jackson got together and the two of them made the track “Scream”. This song primarily focuses on the aggressive, retaliatory song centered at the tabloid media and their coverage of the child sexual abuse accusations that were made against Michael Jackson in 1993.  If anything, this song right here is the perfect brother and sister combination.

8. Smooth Criminal

With their slick shiny suits and Cuban cigar smoking, this song is recognized for its iconic gangster-inspired video featuring Michael and his dancers performing a seemingly impossible forward lean, created using strings and wires. Michael Jackson’s idea of being a “Smooth Criminal” is taking on this classic Al Capone gangster character in the 1940s where a woman named Annie is killed in her apartment and the killer gets away, giving us the idea of what a smooth criminal is. The song digs into more of a darker side of Michael’s music.

9. Black or White

Michael always stood firm on wanting racial equality for not only his fans but as human beings in general. This pop-rock song focuses on racial equality that lets everyone know that you can rock to any of Michael’s songs, it doesn’t matter if your “Black or White”.  This song featured other stars at the time, including Macaulay Culkin, George Wendt, Bart, and Homer Simpson, and legendary Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash. As you can tell, this song has mixtures of interests that are liked by other ethnicity’s letting you know race has nothing to do with music.

10. Thiller

Ok like all great things that are usually saved best for last, Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” track might as well be the most recognized and amazing song to have ever been produced. What makes this song so unique is that this song’s theme is focusing on a horror zombie theme where horror icon Vincent Price was also included in this song.  The song starts with Michael being a traditional smooth mac man with the ladies, but when the sun goes down that is when the creatures come out in which Jackson turns into a zombie and performs a dance routine. This song has often been voted the greatest music video ever made.

Michael Jackson may have left this world too soon, but his legacy will forever live on in this world! What is your favorite Michael Jackson song? Let me know in the comments below.
