College can be a lot harder than what you expected initially! Sometimes it is not just the coursework but professors, friends, roommates, long-distance relationships, deadlines, parents, the list goes on. Sometimes you need to just let it out knowing that you’ll feel lots better after the fact and you can move on to problem solving the issue. If you’re not in the comfort of your form or apartment, here are 10 of my favorite places to cry on Texas Tech campus if you need a place to shed a tear or two!
The SUB is one of my favorite places on Texas Tech campus because of everything going on around it! I loved to set up my studying station in Starbucks and it was the perfect place to people watch because of the giant windows in the cafe. Because I went here almost every single day between classes, this turned to my most visited sob spot because I just had to run outside.
Real talk, I really just had to walk outside super fast after gathering my stuff and set up near the pillars by the outdoor seating. If you choose the pillar that is farthest from where everyone congregates, you can silently cry and peace and you should only get a few weird looks. The first rule of public crying is to carry backup sunglasses for the puffiness afterward. This was the life hack that I created to go on with my day after my sob fest before Music class.
I know I’m really not special for crying in the Math building because nothing about Math brings about happy feelings for anyone. But the TTU Math building in particular, in the lower level, is top-notch.
I would rate this pretty high on my list of places to cry because there are two doors to go through before you get to the actual stalls. So you can really let your ugly cry out here because you have a few seconds to dry it up if you hear anyone coming in! I would like to add that there’s is some sort of understanding on college campuses when you see others cry because you just know their pain, so keep that in mind.
I am a little biased towards this crying location because this was where most of my classes were as English was my major, but there are lots of perks to this spot! If you time your outburst just right, you will be able to get the little section to yourself with no one there.
Even if someone is there, you can tug yourself in the corner by yourself and cry silently. The best part of it is that there is free coffee in the atrium and sometimes treats! A little reward to set you forward in what comes after your crying session!
This is technically multiple places where you will be crying, but at least you can do this while walking to class or walking to your car! Texas Tech campus is one of the greatest places in Texas and you should take advantage of your time on campus! Depending on when your classes are, the campus can be a little empty sometimes with just a few people walking around, so you might be able to time it perfectly to cry with absolutely no one around.
If you need to physically get away from the craziness of school and the rest of Texas Tech campus, this is a good spot for you! Not only is it a pretty place to just sit and admire, but this spot on campus is pretty empty for the most part! All the academic buildings and dorms are farther away from the seal and the fountain, so you can weep until your heart is content at the fountain!
The funny thing about this building is that it was here and looked the same when my dad was attending TTU about 20+ years ago! This is a good option for crying because the bathrooms are pretty empty most of the time! Traffic in this area is pretty slim because everyone has classes elsewhere so if you run into any issues with the first-floor bathrooms, you can walk around and find some other isolated places in this building!
This is almost the same concept as just taking a walk around Texas Tech campus, but faster. If you’ve been on campus for even 5 minutes, chances are that you have almost been run over by a Lime Scooter! The speed of your scooter and the speed of your tears should be unmatched and should be completely dry by the time you get to your destination. Of course, always drive your Lime Scooter with care and if your tears are a bit much, take a stop at one of these other destinations.
This option might seem a little random, but I just happened to have one class in here one semester, and it’s an oldie, but a goodie to say the least! I found that not a ton of people are in here most of the time except for the occasional class, but there are a few labs in here. It can smell a little funny at times, but the classrooms are empty and that’s a good place to sort things out if you need to!
Even if you arent going to the bathrooms in the library to cry, you should make this your go-to place to do your business. In my experience, these are some of the nicer options on campus because they are giant! This is good news for you because you can distance yourself from anyone who could be around you and shed a few tears! Once you’re done, you can get back to studying in the library or finding something to read.
For all of my Arts and Sciences students, you will know this building on Texas Tech campus well! A hidden gem is the top floor because no one is up there for the most part. If you need somewhere completely isolated to let it all out, make this your next destination!
