10 Nostalgic Board Games You Can Drink To

Let’s take a stroll down memory lane, but this time, let’s make sure to get a little buzzed! Nostalgic board games are perfect for any party, but they are even more fun with some Tequila and shot glasses on stand-by. So scroll down and find out the best nostalgic board games you need to include at your next game night! Hey, whoever said board games were just for kids?!?

1. Sorry!

I grew up with Disney’s Sorry! but any version of Sorry! will do. This game can have up to 4 players, and each player gets their own colored set of pawns. The main objective of this game is to get all of your pawns around the board and in the home zone first! However, if you get a “Sorry” card, it’s back to start with you! So, to incorporate a little booze, simply make a rule where if one player pulls a “Sorry” card, then they need to take a shot or giant gulp of their drink. You’ll have your friends really feeling “sorry” in the morning!

2. Chutes and Ladders

I bet you can already tell how this drinking game will go. Each player gets to flick the spinner when it’s their turn and jump however many spaces forward on the board, with the end goal of trying to reach the last spot first. If a player lands on a ladder space, they get to climb up. But if they land on a chute space, they have to slide back down. Make a rule where if a player lands on a chute space, they have to drink. Trust me, you’ll be drunk in no time!

3. Yahtzee

Yahtzee is a family favorite of mine, and so we often play this game the “hard way.” Instead of filling out your sheet according to what the dice gives you, play this game by going directly down the list in order. So on turn one, you are rolling for your ones. On turn two, you are rolling for your twos, and so forth until you complete the sheet straight down the list. Odds are you aren’t going to be able to fill out every box in order, so whenever you leave a box blank, drink!

4. Connect Four

Connect four is already a quickly-paced game, so when you factor in alcohol, just know you’ll be buzzed by the third game! You can incorporate drinking in several ways. First off, you can drink every time your opponent blocks you from a potential “connect four,” or you can drink every time you lose a game. As the games go on, your alcohol-infused state of mind will make it get harder and harder to be strategic about things, but that’s the whole point, am I right?!

5. Jenga

Jenga is a classic drinking game that will get you drunk no matter how you play. Whether you like to restack the Jenga pieces after one has been pulled out, or if you like to leave the pieces out altogether, consider making a “party cup” filled to the brim with an assortment of alcoholic beverages. Meaning, everyone pours what they’re drinking into one red solo cup, called the “party cup.” Then, whoever knocks down the Jenga tower, has to down the entire “party cup.”

You can also use Jenga as a couples drinking game by creating your own prompts on each Jenga block. Every time you pull a block, follow the prompts you created, like “kiss your SO,” or “tell a dirty secret.”

6. Battleship

“You sunk my battleship” can now be replaced with “Now drink, no sips.” As the game goes, every time your opponent sinks your battleship, you will take a drink! Easy as that. Typically, if you two are evenly matched, you’ll both be drinking throughout the entire game.

7. Monopoly

Monopoly has been around for years, and I don’t know anyone who hasn’t played this game before! But just in case some of you have never heard of it, the object of this game is to become the wealthiest player by renting, buying, and selling property. Make a drinking rule where whenever you owe money (like the jail space or a utility space) you take a drink. Just make sure to exclude the rent spaces, or you’ll be drunk before you can own any property!

8. Candy Land

Candy Land might look sweet and silly, but it can get ruthless, if you pull the wrong card! In this board game, each player is trying to get their pawn to the finish line by drawing colored cards and then jumping to the corresponding square. Some cards have sweet characters on them, like Queen Frostine and Princess Lolly, that allow you to advance your pawn significantly forward. However, there are other characters, like Lord Licorice or Gloppy, that will not only send you backwards, but they’ll also make you take a drink!

9. The Game of Life

For this nostalgic board game, learn a life lesson AND get buzzed! The object of this game is to make life decisions, build a family, earn money, buy a home, and you know, other stuff that makes up a life! Similar to the Monopoly setup, whenever you owe money in the game, take a drink! Also, you don’t have to use the negative squares for drinking. Instead, maybe you can designate a specific colored square to drinking, like the orange squares or blues squares. It’s up to you, just have fun with it!

10. Clue

It was Colonel Mustard, in the library, with the revolver!

Really, you thought I would forget Clue? Don’t worry, I saved the best board game for last! For this drinking game, there will be one lucky winner after each game who will not need to drink. So go ahead and put on your detective hat, and play clue as normal. Then, once a player correctly guesses “whodunit,” the rest of the players have to down their entire drink. As the games go on, you’ll find that your clues just aren’t adding up!
