10 Fun Collage Ideas For Your Wall

If you’ve got empty space on your walls that you just don’t know what to do with, give college a try! Collage is my personal favorite medium of art for a few different reasons, but mostly because piecing together your own collage lets you express yourself creatively in a really fun and involved way. Putting up a collage on your wall is a great way to bring your own personal style and touch into any room and lets you create an art piece that is uniquely yours! Collage is open to many different possibilities, so if you’re feeling unsure of where to start, check out these 10 fun collage ideas for some inspiration!

1. Photo Collage

Making a collage out of photos is always a clever way to bring more pictures into your space and lets you display them in really cool and eye-catching ways. You can use whatever photos you’d like, such as pictures of family and friends, photos from travel or vacations, your fur baby – there’s really no way to go wrong!

Whether or not you frame the pictures is totally up to you, but keep in mind frames can change the look of the collage. I personally like to strike a balance between the two and have some framed while the rest are not – this creates a cool mix-and-match vibe that I really like. Get as creative as you’d like with it and have fun!

2. Create A Vision Board

Using your wall space to create a vibrant and large-scale vision board to serve as daily inspiration is a great use of collage! Creating a collage vision board is especially fun because it’s designed to be filled with positive images, words, and things that you want for your future self. It can be something you’re working towards or any dream you have for yourself – whatever gets you inspired each day!

Piecing a vision board together is a really fun way to get creative and motivated at the same time. A popular theme of many vision boards is travel, so if you’re unsure of where to begin your collage, think of all the parts of the world you’d love to see someday!

3. Feel The Music

If you’re a music lover, why not theme your wall art around your favorite bands or albums? Music is a classic collage theme and you can get really creative with piecing it together. You can use album art, promotional posters of your favorite bands (or ones you think just look cool!), old records, it’s really open for creative possibilities! Incorporating quotes from songs adds an extra layer to any music themed collage. Don’t be afraid to express yourself here, that’s what music is for!

4. Create A Cool Shape

Use your collage to create a cool eye-catching shape on your wall! If you’ve got the patience, arranging your collage pieces to create a large shape or image can really take your collage to the next level. Popular collage shapes include hearts, stars, circles, diamonds, triangles, letters, and the list goes on! If you want a little extra pop of impact from your collage, try forming it into a cool shape.

5. Black & White

Collages don’t always have to be bursting with color. In fact, having a black and white collage gives off a really classy and cool vibe, like an old movie! If that’s more of the decor feel you’re going for, going black and white with your wall collage is a smart move.

Having different shades in your black and white collage is important for creating cohesion, but with enough shades and pieces, your black monochromatic collage can have just as much impact as a vibrant one!

6. Bring In Nature

The fun thing about collage is that you aren’t actually limited to using only photos or prints all the time. You can incorporate almost anything into a collage, and bringing in elements of nature can be really fun and freshen up the look of any room.

Adding some dried flowers, ferns, or herbs to a collage gives your wall a soft outdoorsy vibe and brings elements of natural beauty into your space. You can also use leaves, twigs, feathers, whatever you’d like! Why not reconnect with nature while you craft your collage?

7. Make Use Of A Corner

Sometimes it can feel like there just aren’t a lot of options when it comes to making the best use of corner space. Luckily, collage can help! Making a collage in the corner of a room can be really eye-catching and effective because it’s not often we get to utilize that space, especially for an art piece. If you’ve got extra space in your corners, try sprucing them up with a cool collage!

8. Make A Makeshift Headboard

If your bed is lacking a headboard and you want to create the illusion of having one, collage is a great way to do that! By creating a collage on the wall behind your bed, you can create the shape of a headboard and the collage will give the illusion of serving as an actual headboard for your bed.

It can be as large or small as you’d like and whatever shape you’d like, just have fun with it! It’s not every day you get to truly personalize your headboard.

9. Have A Color Theme

If you’ve got a color theme going in your space, it can be a really fun and creative challenge to try and create a collage that matches that theme instead of bringing in a bunch of other colors. Or maybe you don’t have much color going on and want to add a splash of color, a themed collage would be great for that too!
