Shopping is a wonderfully fun activity, but it gets even better when you buy from fashion brands made in the USA. The many evils of the fast fashion industry can never be justified by low prices or styles that are ‘to die for’ because to be perfectly honest, some people do in fact die for them- directly and indirectly. Instead of supporting an unethical, unsustainable cycle of fashion doom, bookmark these ten incredibly cute and undeniably sustainable fashion brands made in the USA! You won’t miss your fast-fashion pieces, I promise.
This Hawaii-based lifestyle brand manufactures most of their very cute pieces in Los Angeles, and they always use non-toxic, water-based dyes in their screen printing process. Sugarhigh Lovestoned is a slow fashion brand that only makes extremely small batches of every collection, which provides a much-needed break from the significant waste that comes from the fast fashion industry. As they say in their product descriptions- get it, or regret it! They’ll sell out quick of their best styles.
Their super soft tees are particularly noteworthy, but only if you don’t mind rocking some serious statements screen-printed across your shirt. If you show Sugarhigh some love, you’re sure to get some back.
Gamine Workwear makes its products with 100% natural textiles, and all its pieces are made by seamstresses in Illinois, Texas, Tennessee, New Hampshire & Massachusetts. This amazing slow fashion brand broadcasts its commitment to slow fashion right on its homepage and takes the time to slowly develop, test, and thoughtfully produce each design. Although there are very limited pieces on the website, each one is both beautiful and practical. These aren’t pieces you’ll be getting rid of after a year!
Not all of Emerson Fry’s clothing is entirely made in the USA, but they are always transparent about where clothing items are made and the majority of their very cute and fashionable items are in fact American-made. Their commitment to environmental sustainability and social justice is made clear throughout their website, and they even made a whole section on their website entitled ‘The India Collection’ for things not entirely made in the USA, which of course houses items made in India all together.
The India Collection is focused on supporting the traditions of hand block print and tie-dye in India, but sadly it is unclear if the pattern is the only part that is made in India. Still, there are plenty of items you can pick from that are entirely American-made, which makes Emerson Fry one of the cutest fashion brands made in the USA.
Harvest & Mill is incredibly proud of and transparent about all their products being sewn, grown, and milled in the USA. The company has a commitment to ethical and sustainable practices, and their extensive ‘about’ pages give customers the information they need to trust in the brand, and to feel confident in their purchases. Unfortunately, there isn’t a range of fashion-forward cuts and styles to choose from, but if you’re looking for the most ethical loungewear you could possibly find, Harvest & Mill is definitely one of the best fashion brands made in the USA.
My favorite fashion brands made in the USA have all the information I need front and center and on the homepage. Hackwith Design House is one of these brands. This cute and fashionable company makes everything in-house in Minnesota, and to reduce the waste that too often comes with the fashion industry, many of their pieces are not even made until you order them. To boot, this is one of the only fashion brands made in the USA that I’ve found that makes a swimwear line, so make sure you don’t miss their many beautiful, ethical pieces! We need more American-made swimwear!
This groovy, small, female-owned company is proud of its ethical, handmade-to-order pieces that are produced in L.A. with love from their own Latino family. They have made a commitment to slow fashion, which includes environmentally-conscious practices like sourcing locally, only making items to order, curating a vintage collection, recycling all materials, and generally striving to be as sustainable as possible. For unique pieces that you can feel 100% good about buying, you have to check out this sweet, sweet company.
LAmade clothing is just that–LA-made. Another company committed to sustainability and ethical practices, they have an extensive about page and broadcast their American-made roots on their homepage, like all my favorite fashion brands made in the USA.
This fashion company was established in 2004 by immigrants who came to the USA in search of their own American dream, and that dream is engaging in slow fashion practices that are better for everyone and the planet, too! The variety of cute and comfy casual wear at LAmade is perfect for weekends, after-work excursions, or less formal workwear. Instead of picking up fast fashion basics, check out LAmade instead. You won’t be disappointed.
Sadly, not all of LACAUSA’s products are made in the USA, but they are transparent about that fact and you can easily limit yourself to only buying what was made in the USA. The company is committed to honest, ethical practices no matter where their clothes are being manufactured, and they do produce most of their goods in L.A. despite the small percentage being manufactured overseas.
In their ‘about’ page, they’ve committed to low waste design practices, but I can’t say that I feel as confident about buying from them as from some other brands. That being said, they have really cute styles and most things are, in fact, American-made.
The ‘about’ page on the Rachel Pally website is kind of inaccessible, but also sweet because you need to read it like a story. After reading through their story, I can confirm that Rachel Pally is one of the fashion brands made in the USA that a customer can trust and buy from with confidence. The company, established and run by Rachel, is committed to ethical and sustainable practices, which in turn support the local community of L.A. Rachel Pally has a number of gorgeous, fashion-forward pieces as well as a range of basics. Their short dresses and tops are especially cute!
Another ethical, American-made brand hailing from L.A. is Veronica M. This fashion company is another of the fashion brands made in the USA committed to supporting the local community by buying fabric from local sources. Veronica M was established by Veronica herself, and each piece is made and packaged by the same team that has been with her since the beginning, which is a great testament to the fair, ethical labor practices at the company. The only downside is the lack of commitment to environmentally sustainable practices on the website, likely reflecting reality.
The Veronica M website showcases a large variety of styles, including comfortable and classic basics at an affordable price. If you’re looking for new classic pieces, ditch fast fashion and choose Veronica M instead.
