10 Essentials Every Freshman Fashionista Needs

My first year at college, I wasn’t really sure what to bring in terms of makeup or clothes, so I ended up bringing everything I had. Turns out, I didn’t need at least half of the things I brought! I found myself going back to the same items over and over again. From my experience, you only need a few essentials, and you can build outfits and looks from those pieces. You’ll still have a wide variety to choose from for any occasion. Stick with the basics so that you don’t go overboard packing. Keep reading for the top 10 fashion and beauty essentials you actually NEED as a freshman fashionista!

1. White Blouse

A white blouse is staple since it looks good with everything. You can pair it with any bottom or accessorize to create any look you want. It can be a casual piece for everyday wear, or you can dress it up for those times when you need to look more put together.

2. A Good Pair of Jeans

Let’s be honest, who doesn’t end up wearing the same pair of jeans almost every day because they’re the ones that make your legs look the best, or that feel the best on your hips? Personally, I prefer a high-waisted fit because it elongates your legs. Sometimes I wear them with a top tucked and other times untucked for a totally different look.

3. Suit Pants

Suit pants are a young professional essential. Chances are that in college you might have to do a serious presentation or have a job interview. Pants and a blouse are the best outfit to impress any audience. Also, if you join an organization, they might have events you need to dress up for, and suit pants are an easy way to do that.

4. Brown Sandals

Like most of these pieces, brown sandals are a good staple to have in your closet to add variety. Get a nice simple pair that doesn’t look too casual, so that way they can be used for all kinds of situations. Whether it’s sorority recruitment or just a nice day on campus, brown sandals are sure to add depth and style to your closet.

5. Cute Hat

Whether you’re a baseball cap kind of girl, or a big floppy hat is more your style, there are going to be days when you’re lazy, or you wake up late and don’t want to deal with your hair. A hat is the best way to cover up your messy hair and move on with your routine.

6. Moisturizer

If there’s one beauty product I say you need, it’s moisturizer. It’s important to keep your skin clean and healthy, and the right moisturizer will give your skin that healthy glow; so if you want to go bare-faced, you can still feel confident about your skin. It keeps your skin hydrated and also is a great base if you choose to wear foundation.

7. Setting Spray

No matter if it’s a long day of classes, a night out, or a combination of both, setting spray is an absolute essential. Most of us tend to get oily throughout the day, and setting spray will keep your makeup intact and is a great tool to use so you don’t have to worry about what you look like after an eight-hour day.

8. Dry Shampoo

Like I said with hats, there will be days when you wake up and don’t want to spend time washing your hair, and dry shampoo is the best way to skip that time in your morning routine. Dry shampoo is also a great way to give hair texture, and using dry shampoo on second-day hair makes it a lot easier to style.

9. Makeup Wipes

If there’s one thing I can pride my beauty routine on, it’s always taking off my makeup at the end of the night. It’s so important that you have makeup wipes because if you sleep in your makeup, it can clog your pores and can cause your skin to look not as healthy as it would if you took a few minutes to remove your makeup and wash your face.

10. Mineral Powder

If you have oily skin, using a powder is probably something you’re used to, and there’s definitely a difference throughout the day if you use a powder compared to if you don’t. It’s a great way to set your makeup and make sure you don’t get any oily spots, and you can take it along with you to touch up throughout the day.
