10 Celebrity Fashion Styles You Can Recreate For Yourself
Whenever I think of celebrity fashion, “ostentatious,” “luxurious,” and “outrageously expensive” are all words that come to mind. How can I, a simple, nearly-broke college student, possibly dress like Zendaya? Here’s something I came to learn: celebrity fashion doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg. You can wear a similar outfit to Kim Kardashian without coughing up thousands of dollars. All it takes is smart shopping, prior planning, and going to the right stores. Here are ten celebrity fashion styles that anyone can imitate:
1. Zoë Kravitz
I swear, Zoë Kravitz can pull off anything. She’s so effortlessly beautiful that even the simplest outfit looks Red Carpet ready on her. This is one example of a basic outfit Kravitz absolutely rocks. She incorporates muted, dark tones into this look, sticking mostly to black. I love the contrast she creates with the neon blue top, which is a hot color this season. The green purse adds a nice pop of color, too. Since this outfit is so subdued, it’s an easy one to recreate yourself. All you need is a solid color maxi skirt (preferably a neutral tone), casual footwear (sandals or platform flip-flops would work well here), and a colorful tank top. Square sunglasses and a handbag are optional, of course. Any thrift store is likely to carry these pieces, but if you don’t have any luck there, try Zara or Depop.
2. Suki Waterhouse
Adding another nepotism baby to the list. Kidding. Suki Waterhouse is far more than a nepotism baby: she’s a talented singer, model, actress, and fashion icon. I aspire to be as cool as her and Zoë Kravitz. For this look, Waterhouse is wearing an oversized linen top (with seemingly no bottoms), a crossbody bag, and a pair of heeled boots. Now, I think this would be a perfect transitional outfit from summer to fall. It’ll be simple to find an oversized button-up—they’re everywhere in the men’s section at a Goodwill or Savers. I’ve bought a few myself, ranging in colors and patterns. Tall heeled boots like Waterhouse’s will be harder to get your hands on, as they’re such a specific color and height. Obviously, it doesn’t have to be spot on. Any knee-high boot works!
3. Lizzo
Lizzo looks absolutely stunning in this trench coat and dress combo. I love how they’re both such simple pieces, yet when paired together, look so chic. The outfit is giving Parisian model-off-duty and I’m eating it up. This little black dress looks a bit sheer, so if that’s the look you’re going for, I suggest trying the lingerie section of a vintage store. All the vintage shops I go to usually have a wide selection of classy, night-out-worthy slip dresses. Blazers like these are another common find at thrift shops, so get shopping!
4. HoYeon Jung
When HoYeon Jung isn’t killing it on Squid Game, she’s serving looks on the street. I love so many of her outfits, but this one is especially cute and not at all difficult to replicate. Black skirts are a staple to have in your closet, seeing as they can be styled in so many ways. Jung accessorizes her black skirt with a coordinating belt, and for a top, a beige button-up. Button-ups and dad sneakers like the ones Jung wears are other fashion must-haves. I’m assuming that most people own pieces of clothing similar to those in the picture, making this an already-attainable look.
5. Daisy Edgar-Jones
If there’s one person that can pull off an ugly sweater vest, it’s Daisy Edgar-Jones. (Though, to be honest, I don’t think this sweater vest is ugly at all). I adore her outfit here, though there isn’t much to it. Once again, Edgar-Jones incorporates capsule pieces into this on-the-go look. Everyone owns a white short sleeve shirt and a pair of blue jeans, so cross those off the list of clothes to buy. The only additional pieces you need are a sweater vest (the bigger, the better) and loafers. Back in the fall, I purchased a pair of chunky loafers from Princess Polly, and I never take them off. The sweater vest is an easy score: just borrow your grandpa’s.
6. Natalia Dyer
Not only is Natalia Dyer an amazing actress, but she’s super stylish, too. This outfit is a couple of years old, yet still on trend today. Overalls have made a triumphant return in 2022, so you won’t have any trouble finding a pair. There are a ton on Depop and Vinted, for those of you that prefer shopping online. Dyer complements the playfulness of her overalls with an equally-oversized bag and coat. I love the bagginess of everything here, with the sandals and neck scarf creating a contrastingly tight fit. I would definitely wear an outfit like this to the airport (not sure why, it just screams Jet Blue).
7. Zendaya
Zendaya, you are the love of my life. And you’re also my celebrity fashion inspiration. While I’m 99% sure this is a Tommy Hilfiger dress she’s wearing ($$$!), any maxi dress will do the trick for this look. Play around with patterns and colors for the dress, but be sure to incorporate the gorgeous cherry red of Zendaya’s coat and boots. I found a similar blazer (for probably much cheaper) at my local Goodwill, though it’s more tight-fitting than the one here. The real challenge won’t be putting this outfit together—it will be walking in those heels.
8. Selena Gomez
Following Zendaya, we have another former Disney Channel star and style icon, Selena Gomez. Though she’s long gone from Disney, her sweater is reminiscent of something Harper Finkle would wear on Wizards of Waverly Place. It’s sweet, silly, and absolutely adorable on her. With this outfit, Gomez exemplifies the importance of layering. To steal her look, you’ll want to wear a basic turtleneck under a busier sweater. This is a great look for the winter (though we have a long way to get there!).
9. Elle Fanning
Elle Fanning’s outfits never fail to impress me. I love this one especially; it’s giving HUGE dark academia vibes. If you want to steal Fanning’s studious-yet-chic look, you’ll need these four wardrobe staples: a plain blazer, a maxi skirt, black tights, and a white button-up. Voìla–that’s all there is to it! I would wear this outfit if I wanted to impress my classmates, or if I just felt like dressing up to a lecture.
10. Hayley Kiyoko
Last but certainly not least, we have Hayley Kiyoko. Kiyoko is never afraid to play around with different colors, patterns, and textures. I would’ve never thought to pair a romantic corset top with a pair of athletic pants. Somehow, she makes it work. If you’re up for a fashion challenge, find some sports bottoms and a more feminine top to go with it.
Evidently, celebrity fashion isn’t exclusive to the rich and famous. Anyone can rock these looks, whether they’re an Academy Award winner or an Academy Award watcher.
